It looks as if Amazon.uk does not have the LE - at least not yet. You can buy it directly from Arrow Films (www.arrowfilms.co.uk) - it is up for preorder at 29.99. It is limited to 5000 copies.

Bowers0813,

Yes it is. I have ordered from Amazon UK many times. And I am always amazed at how fast the items arrive, too.

Fantastic fim. And this looks to be definitive. I've got the old 2 disc Tartan dvd, but if I can find the LE, I''m going to have to splurge (oo-er)!

It'll be great to see the girl (can't remember her name) who does the information video
when the kids first arrive at the camp in Hd! Phwoar!

Might pre-order from Arrowfilms - haven't decided yet.

Thanks mace_freley, I'm ready to rejoice I can't wait to own this movie on Bluray. of all the Asian movies I've watched this is the one i've wanted the most. I don't even care which edition I get as long as I get battle Royale in 1080p HD.

Hey jello_02

Yes, it's Arrowfilms official site. If you check out the contents above, you will see [LE-exclusive] where it differs from the normal SE. I ordered a copy, and are looking forward to getting it.

I asked over at the cultlabs forums, Almar said that the special editions are set for a February release (although I guess sooner if they sell out the 5000 limited editions quicker).

Excuse my ignorance, but if it's region free, I won't have any problems playing it on my PS 3 or viewing it on my TV?

I think the amazon.co.uk one might be the limited one as well, since it says 3 discs also, and artwork to be announced

I don't like this at all. I pre-ordered this at instant when this was announced a week ago. I ordered it from Amazon.co.uk because the version sale there was suppose to be the Limited Edition. Now all of a sudden Arrow Films are selling it for the price of 29.99. Amazon.co.uk states the price as 14.99. That's quite a difference there. Sure Amazon also says that it's only the Special Edition but it has the very same release date.

And also to Jr7936,

Blu-ray.com:s comments said this: "zombeaner:
Both the limited and special edition will have 3 discs as far as I know." 6 days ago

I believe it's the packaging and the physical extras that makes the editions different.

based upon what other sites have said, this is the limited edition version or from what I have been able to gather
for under 30 dollars for this shipped to america is a very good price if it is indeed the limited version

scatterb - Amazon may be selling it for 14.99 but they do have the RRP listed as 29.99. I think the point here is the first 5000 pressed will have the extra Limited Edition exclusive stuff but then it will revert to the regular edition.

Never bought a region free blu ray before. Will this play on a PS3 from the United States?
PGW
  Oct 21, 2010
Vote plusVote minus Report as inappropriate

"Region Free" means just that - it should play fine on your PS3 if you're in the States. The only thing that wouldn't play is if any of the extra features are in standard resolution - and that's because they're PAL, not because of the region encoding.

Great news about it being region free! I have the U.K. tin (with the film cut), but that's the extended cut - which isn't nearly as good as the original.

Really, though, the marketing on this rates an F+ for causing mass confusion among consumers. Why don't they just do what Warners Archive does when they have a limited edition - list it separately, and when it sells out it sells out - at least people ordering it know what they're getting. This way you have the potential of disappointing people who have blindly ordered the thing, and end up getting the SE instead of the LE. Why do that to consumers, when you don't have to? For that matter, why bother selling it on your own website at full list price when it's selling at amazon.co.uk for nearly half the price (assuming it's even the same thing) -- and if it's NOT the same thing, why not be clear and upfront with consumers as to exactly what you're selling and what they can expect to get?

As for the chick on the TV... well, I'm not sure how much better she'll look, because she only appears on the (lo-res) TV screen, if I remember correctly :-) :-).

Yeah, spot on PGW, they have really caused mass confusion. They should have separate UPCs if they are separate items being released at the same time or at a different time.

I seriously don't know what my order from Amazon is actually going to be now.

You put me at ease for now. I didn't think to check the RRP. But still PGW is right. This whole deal seems a bit too confusing.

The LE is the one available for pre-order on Amazon UK, according to this: http://twitchfilm.net/news/2010/10/arrow-video-battle-royale-blu-ray-to-be-region-free.php#comment-63998

I will repeat, staff at the cultlabs forums (linked directly to the BR Bluray producer Arrow Films) said that the special editions are set for a February release. So no matter where you order it, it will be the Limited edition!!!

Check out the BR forum thread in the UK section and/or check out the cultlabs forum

very cool. I pre-ordered it from amazon.co.uk for 14.99 since its cheaper there. I also picked up Inferno on blu-ray (also from arrow video and priced at 14.99), and when i got the last checkout screen, the prices for both had changed to about 12.75 each.

Apparently if you group them together you save 4.5 on the total order. Thats a little over 7 bucks! It basically covers your cost for shipping.

Arrow Vid on FB: "Retailers are listing our Battle Royale Limited Edition as Special Edition - have no fear this IS the Limited Edition and retailers are changing the title very soon!"
however I'd like a clear answer
I also ordered immediately
anybody?

already ordered it would be nice if it comes in the limited Edition but if its tons and tons better than the Korean import I have then I don't care. Just need to finish the novels and start on the Ultimate Editions (volumes 1-5) of the manga=)

Pixelcide - it's not a bundle deal. The price changed to 12.75 at the checkout screen because Amazon.uk subtracts VAT for U.S. orders. Read up on it.

I see amazon.co.uk updated their listing with a picture, that says Special Edition. Should I pre-order from arrow instead? the amazon price is just too good to give up.

Why pay double the price Ned? Almar from the cultlab forums (linked to arrow) said that the special edition was due in February, so all shops selling will be the 10,000 limited sets.

If you look at the bottom, it says "artwork TBC" (to be confirmed), so what you see on Amazon.co.uk is just placeholder.

Hopefully Amazon, Play and HMV get sent an update from Arrow to tweak their listings, would certainly clear up any more confusion.
