Amazon is having a special promotion linked to two Blu-ray catalog releases from Fox: if you buy Alien Anthology together with The Last of the Mohicans, you will save $20. The discount will be applied at checkout. There is no information regarding how long this promotion will run.
Thus, at the time of writing, with this discount you can get both titles for only $84.99.
If you are only interested in Alien Anthology, the best deal at the moment is still at Newegg, which is offering it for $79.99 with free shipping.
toofastforlove, that's a good deal that works out to about $60 US. Of course that doesn't include shipping. I also don't know for sure that the extras aren't unwatchable on all but a few US players. Plus those ugly-assed age markers the brits always slap all over their movies pretty much rule it out. I'd rather pay the little bit extra and get the America version from Newegg (which will arrive in a couple of hours. *rubs hands together evilly*). The book-like interior looks way better than the Quadrilogy-style fold out platter the UK version has.
What the hell does THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS have to do with the ALIEN movies? And since when is $17 per movie a good deal? Especially when two of the movies aren't worth owning.
I'll admit that with standard shipping, $60 for this set is a pretty good deal. I frankly prefer to pay the extra $20 for way better packaging, faster shipping and the piece of mind of knowing every extra will play perfectly.
fettastic, the UK Alien discs are the same discs as the US set, 100% guaranteed, there are no PAL features on the UK set. This has been talked about on every forum for weeks. It is safe to order the UK discs.
The packaging is up to your own preference, but stop saying they might not work on Region A players.
I said "I don't know for sure", and "[my] peace of mind". So I'm not DECLARING the ability of these discs one way or another. I can't speak for what somebody said in a forum somewhere which I have no knowledge of. I was expressing MY OWN PERSONAL FEELINGS, which I have a right to express and am not looking to stop expressing anytime soon. Don't like it? Too bad.
If you have proof there is no issue with the discs for region A players, then provide it. I don't care either way because my set arrives today. Once again, I was only speaking for MYSELF.
I know you weren't "DECLARING the ability of these discs one way or another", hence why I said "stop saying they MIGHT not work".
What kind of proof could I possibly offer over the internet besides people who own the discs saying everything plays fine and professional reviewers saying the same thing? Do you want me to come to your house with a UK copy and show you on your own player?
All you're doing is spreading misinformation for other people who might happen to look at your posts and think they shouldn't order the UK versions to save money. I just wanted to clarify that that was not the case.
Thanks Grifter02,
You're completely right that it's potentially spreading misinformation to declare it might not play. As you stated -- it's been pretty much verified by EVERYONE who has a copy of the UK edition (including reviewers and consumers) that the extras are not PAL and that the discs are the exact same content.
The only difference is the packaging. Since I'm a sucker for custom art I don't mind saving $23+ by ordering the UK set, which should be here within days. I live in NYC and everything I have ordered from amazon.co.uk has arrived within 3-5 days of shipment. The fold-out style was annoying for the 9 disc Quadrilogy set but this is a six disc set -- and therefore it doesn't bother me quite so much -- now off to find some awesome custom art...
@fettastic: The reason I chose Amazon UK was due to two things:
1) The price locally is 109.99 (ahhhhh!!)
2) It won't be bilingual: I'm in Canada where you can't have "Sunshine" without "Les Derniers Rayons Du Soleil" ("The Last Rays of the Sun"). *sigh, Canadian laws..*
I understand what you mean about the UK Rating stickers though, I can see why that might put off some.
Not bad but still still rather expensive. This offer is a moot point for me since I already bought The Last of the Mohicans. I do very much want the US version of the Alien Anthology (I prefer the US packaging over that of the UK version), but I'll wait a little while for a moderate price drop. Perhaps there'll be such a drop around Black Friday.
Ordered and received Alien Anthology from Amazon on the 26th without noticing this deal. Will they go retro and just send me the extra disc or do I have to actually return it to be eligible? Sent them an email...
Thinks for the tip. Was at Best Buy this mourning and almost bought The Alien set there. But then I figured I would save a few bucks by buying it from Amazon. And what a treat to come home and find this deal. So I put my order in at Amazon. Thoe I have to admit I have never scene The Last of The Mohicans. So watching it on Blu-Ray will be my first time watching the movie.
Been watching this set this weekend and it's great. The first 2 films look absolutely stunning. There hasn't been any exagerration on that. I frankly can't even understand why they look so good. It boggles the mind!
The extras look pretty damn shakey. The term "compression artifacts" has new meaning here. Even though it's a BD disc, there's, I don't know, 7 hours or so of SD extras on it. It looks pretty bad in some places. I'm sure it's much worse than on the Quadrilogy set which I sold when this set was first hinted at over a year ago.
The BD Unbound thing didn't work on my 3D Panny. It took a long time to load the first disc and the rest of the discs still show the disclaimer stuff.
The "Play All" feature on the extras disc also didn't work for me. It will play all of the original Quadrilogy featurettes, but none of the new ones. To see those I had toclick on "Alien" on the main menu, then "Bonus pods". I thought they were all going to be integrated into one long documentary, but apparently not. Or at least, it didn't work that way on my player.
Bought on amazon UK for £34.99 ($57.00 includes shipping) Oct 29...arrived Nov 9. Watched last night and was blown away! If you can wait then get from UK.
