Resident Evil: Afterlife Announced on Regular and 3D Blu-ray

Posted November 1, 2010 09:07 AM by Juan Calonge

Sony PicturesSony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that, on December 28, it will release Resident Evil: Afterlife on Blu-ray, in two editions: a 2D Blu-ray and a 3D Blu-ray (which also includes the 2D version). Note that, unlike most other live-action 3D movies, the latest installment in the Resident Evil franchise was shot natively in 3D, using the same Cameron/Pace cameras used for Avatar.

Special features for both editions include:
  • Filmmaker commentary
  • Undead Vision: Picture-in-Picture
  • Deleted and extended scenes
  • Outtakes
  • Back Under the Umbrella: Directing Afterlife
  • Band of Survivors: Casting Afterlife
  • Undead Dimension: Resident Evil in 3D
  • Fighting Back: The Action of Afterlife
  • Vision of the Apocalypse: The Design of Afterlife
  • New Blood: The Undead of Afterlife
  • Pwning the Undead: Gamers of the Afterlife
  • PS3 Wallpaper Theme
  • movieIQ™+sync
  • BD-Live

Pass. Was quite disappointed with this one; apart from the second one, this is the worst of the series. Extinction remains the very best for me...

@Adam_ME - HMV UK have an exclusive steelbook of the film for both the 2D and 3D versions.

I don't care for 3D myself, so I have just pre-ordered the 2D steelbook.

What TheManInBlu said. Afterlife was boring, this coming from a big fan of the first 3.

Can't wait to see this one in 2D. My theatre only carried the 3D version so I had no other option. While I did enjoy Afterlife, I'm sure I'll enjoy it more in 2D, just like Avatar (saw it in 3D, liked it better in 2D).

I thought the first Resident Evil was quite good (thanks largely to Marilyn Manson's score), the second one started off good, then quickly turned to crap, the third and fourth were pretty good.

3D content is really starting to come out now. It sucks that it took this long but I think that by this time next year it will be a thriving format.

I'm glad it is coming in 2D. I think it will look great anyway.

This is where the collector bug kicks in for me. i.e. this probably won't be that great, but....I have all the others, so I might as well finish it off.

Seems silly to release a separate 2D version when the 3D version has 2D in it and the same extras. No matter what display you have anyone who buys the 2D only version is pretty foolish.

I watched it in 2D, but the "hey this is obviously a 3D effect!" didn't bother me as much as the oversued slow-motion >_> Still getting it because I'm forever bound to buy anything that has Resident Evil slapped on the cover

I actually really liked this one. I think it may be the best (or second best) of the series. To me, the first film was just ok, the second was pretty bad, but the 3rd and 4th are where the series really kicks in for me.

Day 1 - Take the 3D version, because it'll play the 2D version and it'll be future proof for any 3D display technology that may come about.

This will be a day 1 purchase for me.

I plan on just buying the 2D version and sticking the disc in the 4-disc holding Trilogy case. Who cares if the cover artwork doesn't show all four films.

I said to myself "it has to be better than the 3rd". Boy was I wrong.

I felt embarrassed for everyone in that film.

i'll get 2d. and it's not foolish. 3d sucks and is a passing fad. the only people who actually like it are the movie studios because they get to charge extra. they're already planning a resident evil 5 since this did so well. hopefully the steelbook in the uk will be region free, because if nobody in the us has it i'll want to order that to match my other three, since we can't order from futureshop in the us

So theres really no point in buying the @D version, I mean I don't have a 3D TV but i'll still be picking up the 3D version cause it's got the 2D version included.

I enjoyed this movie (minus one plot point that i won't get into because of possible spoilers) It wasn't as good as the third film, but it was much better then number 2

these movies have always been a guilty pleasure of mine, and i'm not ashamed of that at all
