When Christopher Nolan's Inception was announced for Blu-ray release on December 7 (see Blu-ray.com, October 14), many enthusiasts were disappointed that the US wasn't getting any special packaging. Now Warner Home Video has announced a limited-edition briefcase gift set, available only through WB's retail website. Price is $49.95 plus shipping (free shipping if total order is $60 or more). Fewer than 2,000 units are available for purchase in the USA.
The contents are apparently identical to those on the limited-edition briefcase announced in the UK.
The briefcase includes seven Art Cards, the comic The Cobol Job, a replica Spinning Top Totem, and a replica PASIV Device Instruction Manual. Details on the exclusive extras:
The metal briefcase measures 9 x 6.5 x 2.75 inches.
The full-color The Cobol Job comic measures 5.75 x 4 inches and is 33 pages long.
The 10-page black & white PASIV instruction manual measures 5.75 x 4.5 inches.
The full-color art cards measure 5.75 x 4 inches.
The heavyweight zinc alloy spinning top totem is 1.25 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches tall.

I always wonder who's sadder? The guys who buy stuff like this, the Blade Runner briefcase, Alien egg case, Terminator Skull case...or their friends who come over to their house and see it and say "Woah you have the _______case, that's so cool!!"
The replica Spinning Top Totem would be cool, but like I always say: I bought a Blu-ray player for the video/audio quality, not for toys and gadgets and stuff.
Probably the ones who have nothing better to do than stop by a thread, bitch about it, and contribute absolutely nothing to the news post. Any idea who that is?
You have to admit, for fans of the film, this is a pretty sweet collector's set. It's much better than the Batpod set offered for The Dark Knight simply because it houses the discs in a regular amaray case INSIDE the briefcase, and not in some cheap little plastic disc holder. It's more reasonably priced than the Batpod or the Alien egg, although unless you're a huge fan like me, $50+ is a bit much.
eco10530,
It looks like a thicker Blu-ray case with a sleeve.
I canceled my UK edition of this and pre-ordered it from the WB site. Looking forward to adding this to my collection. Right next to my Blade Runner Briefcase .
The US and UK briefcases are different. Going by the description on WBShop, the US version has the full-color The Cobol Job comic and the Amazon UK version does not.
i just checked the hmv site in canada and they have listings for both this and the regular edition. so i guess i'll be able to just buy this edition in store on the release day. limited? i dont think so...
I was going to do the same since I also would be paying slightly less for it, however the MAJOR difference is that now the US version won't have those damn ratings logo's! So I don't mind paying a little more for the US version

And don't forget the biggest difference between the two versions. The US release will include a Region 1 NTSC DVD copy of the movie. The UK one will be Region 2 PAL. Granted, most people will likely never use it since the Blu-ray version is the main attraction, but it is something to keep in mind if you value the DVD copy.
I told myself that if this came stateside, I would reserve/buy without hesitation. Seeing that link, I have never clicked and put in my info as quickly as I did there, especially after seeing that less than 2000 are in production. I will say it for everyone putting in a preorder and for myself, THANK YOU kevfree and mshansen FOR KEEPING THE BLU-RAY COMMUNITY IN THE LOOP!
I rarely comment but I have to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for this post. I, too, had a UK pre order (at Amazon UK) for the Briefcase Set. But I do want the Region 1 DVD as well as (possibly) the North American region Digital Copy code of the movie. So glad to see them offer it stateside. Cheers!
good to see this is available in the US now..I pre-ordered from Amazon UK, and will keep my order since its cheaper..could care less about ratings on the package or disc..the only time i'll see them is when I take the disc out of the case and out of the briefcase and slip it into my PS3
I'm actually going to sell the amaray included and replace it with the steelbook I can purchase here at FS . I don't keep the dvd/digital copy disc included either; I sell them on ebay to recoup some of the cost. I'm curious about the HMV Canada one, I wonder if it'll actually be the same or not...
I'm so pumped for this release! Glad to know we're getting hard copies of the PASIV manual AND The Cobol Job.
Does anyone know if 'The Big Under' is featured on the bonus disc? The last time that was mentioned was before the official UK announcement, and isn't listed anywhere.
Sorry, I'm not paying 40 extra bucks for a spinning top toy. I hate to complain but really. For the price and with such a lavish metal case they really could have done a lot more. Not even a bonus disc, soundtrack or poster, etc. I have nothing against fancy editions, but this just isn't worth the moola. Especially compared to to the recently released Back To The Future tin edition. I'll get the same disc contents for 19.99 from the store.
i think u can use the FREESHIP coupon code if u want to save some $$.i just added 2 other bluray to my cart to get free shipping.

this edition is for people who likes special stuff,if you dont like it go to walmart to pick up your "special" walmart edition.
JediTray,
I'm sure you'll be able to pick it up on Ebay. Also the US is Limited to 2,000. I haven't heard anything about the UK having limited quantities on their "Limited Edition".
I work at HMV here in Canada. Yes, we will be selling it at $39.99 and it is the same as you see it here. HMV is odd that way, another example is that we are currently selling Pacific on Blu Ray for $59.99, yet the Pacific DVD is going for $79. Go figure! You could have picked up Battlestar Gallactic The Complete Series on Blu Ray here during it's first 3 days of release earleir this year for $129.99. Not the first time or the last of such strange prices I expect.
@JediTray: Chances are there will be some on eBay, you probably will have to pay more than $50 but my guess is you will see a few pop up there, but probably not many. @Paper Tiger: Less than 2000 are being made available, not 2000 exactly. Sure, that could mean 1,999 or it could mean 500. Still though less than 2000 is not a lot, and there are a ton of Inception fans out there, me being one of them.
I spoke with a warner bros. sales rep yesterday they WILL NOT be getting any more briefcase sets in anytime soon, but this item is still available on the Amazon UK site. The price is $48.00 (plus shipping), it looks the same minus the color comic book. The discs should be region free (most warner bros. film are).
ok so can someone please clear up this HMV canada confusion for me?
At first it was only available on amazon UK (region free blu ray, region 2 dvd)
Then it was on wbstore for a limited time and region 1(now sold out)
Yet HMV canada has it, which since its canada I would assume it is region 1. How is this any different than the sold out wbstore version?
This is one of my favorite films in years and I missed out on the wbstore limited edition so I'd like to find out before I give in and buy the UK version.
thanks
Regarding the HMV Canada situation, yes, Warner Bros does appear to be completely incorrect with respect to their claims. My local HMV store here is getting 40 copies, and just one of the many stores in Vancouver that my brother inquired at is getting 150 copies on its own. So NO exclusivity to the US, NO exclusivity to the WB Shop with respect to ordering and obviously NO limit of 2000.
I have two copies pre-ordered/reserved at $39.99 a piece, as does my brother. I encourage anyone in Canada to do likewise, and I also encourage Canadians NOT to bid on any eBay auctions where these sets are going for twice the retail price - unless you like throwing your money away I guess!
To confirm, this is the exact same set as the UK set and the exact same set that is on the online WB Shop.
Just picked mine up at the local HMV. They had plenty in stock, and it's exactly the same as the advertised set from WBShop.com. $39.99! It's a neat set. There's some nice weight to the spin top as well.
Not sure if it's the same, but there's a number stamp inside of mine, 528491
