Sony Pictures has announced that on January 25, 2011, it will release the 1981 animated movie Heavy Metal. This anthology film is based on stories from the science fiction/fantasy comics magazine of the same title (itself an adaptation of the French magazine Métal Hurlant). It features animated segments based on work by various writers and artists, including Dan O'Bannon, Richard Corben, Juan Giménez and Bernie Wrightson.
I really wish the Feature Length Rough Cut is added to the release, however I would imagine it would be 480 res only... so hang onto your original DVDs.
This made my day! Definitely one of the best soundtracks out there...I remember playing the hell outta that double album and this had a decent arrangement of animated short stories to boot. Way ahead of it's time and a True Cult Classic! As John Candy would say, "There was no way I was going to walk around this place with my #ork hanging out!"
Now I'm only waiting for the Amazon preorder to show up!
Hmmm... I might get it. It just depends if there are going to be more special features added that were not included on the DVD. It's too tough to call if I really need to upgrade at this point.
Dangit. Just watched it on Netflix streaming last night. I should have known it was coming soon since it was a Superbit title. For what it's worth it looked great in HD on Netflix so I'm sure the BD will be amazing.
Hot Chick Riding a Dinosaur and kicks A$$ in a Bar! And the Alien Cheech & Chong suck up a Hot Chick and a funny looking Robot wants to Marry her. I remember this film.
