Inquisitive Blu-ray enthusiasts have found out that the Extended Collector's Edition Blu-ray of Avatar exclusively features two 3D bonus features in the form of "Easter Eggs": the movie trailer and a four-minute featurette titled Pandora Discovered, featuring 3D footage from the film, with narration by Sigourney Weaver as Dr. Grace Augustine.
To access those two features, insert Disc Three of the Blu-ray set. When the main menu appears, move the cursor to the far right and click right once again. At that moment, the 3D selections will be displayed on screen.
Note that these are not anaglyph features, but "real" 3D content created following the Blu-ray 3D specification, and requires a 3D Blu-ray compliant player, display and glasses.
As previously reported (see Blu-ray.com, October 28, the 3D Blu-ray of the full movie will be available exclusively to buyers of Panasonic 3D hardware.
Putting 3D footage on a 2D release where 99.999999999% of the folks who bought the title, can only play back 2d, seems like a really bad tease. Congarts to the VERY limited souls who can actually view this!
Checked it out this Morning on my Panasonic 3D set. Phenomenal! Can't wait to get the disc in the mail for free in a few weeks! The best part is you can just buy a pair of panasonic glasses with the movie in it, then sell the glasses on eBay if you don't want to wait, for the exclusive deal to he over. The 3D glasses kit launches the first week in December in the US.
@mseeley: If by "generous" you mean "we coulda had 3D versions in the collector's set, but Panasonic's bag of money trumped that, so here's a couple of table scraps instead", yes it's extremely "generous" of them.
Wow! Thnx for the tip! It looks great.... Btw Panasonic i would never buy hardware based on the exclusive movie that was available for it......sheez! A friggin year of being exclusive!! Sorry had to vent a bit. And for those holding out, you might want to rethink that, this release is super clear compared to the original release imo. I'm selling my old avatar to a friend new to blu-ray for $10 making this a $15 investment. After seeing the extended version there are no regrets at all. They did an outstanding job on this! Still a great movie even if some of us have to wait for the 3d version to release to the non-exclusive customers.
Hello , I cannot find the hidden easter eggs on disc 3, where is the live extras scene selection in disc 3 because it doesnt say that on the screen menu? thank you hope to hear from you soon
I have a Sony BDP-S470 and also couldn't find the Easter Eggs mentioned in the report. I just got the player a few days ago and haven't updated the firmware yet to make it 3D Compatible. I don't have a 3D TV yet anyhow - just wanted to see if I could find the Easter Egg. Would appreciate any help or insight.
