Amazon's third Lightning Deal for today, starting 12:40 p.m. PST, includes two Blu-ray titles: Shutter Island for $12.99 (67% off MSRP); and The Hannibal Lecter Collection (comprised of Manhunter, The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal) for $17.99 (74% off MSRP). This deal expires at 4:40 p.m. PST, or when stock runs out.
Lol. Me too tridon. Hopefully there aren't people wait-listed b/c I don't want to come off like a prick. I just can't decide how worth it it is. It's a good price, but it's got very average reviews.
I hate when they don't include features available on previous releases. Every subsequent release should contain the features from earlier releases...and more (if applicable).
Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal are worth $18 alone...I picked it up! It actually lasted 10 minutes before they were all claimed, unlike BTTF earlier.
Bah, I picked it up. I'm DEFINITELY done my shopping now. I thought I was done on the weekend but I ended up buying Dollhouse, BTTF and Hannibal today (among others). My girlfriend's gonna kill me. LOL.
Grabbed Shutter. It's a blind buy for me. It's been on my wish list ever since it came out, waiting for a good price. I'm surprised it's going so slowly based on the good reviews.
Wow. No play for Shutter? That's a fine DiCaprio performance. He should be nominated. Even if you know the end, watching his charatcer's decent into madness is beautiful. I hope he gets nominated...and INCEPTION next week! To complete my 2010 Leo DiCaprio collection.
(Sign). Got down off the fence for Hannibal. I already have Silence, so I guess I'm going to keep waiting for a stand-alone Hannibal to be released some day. Hopefully a new pressing with the missing special features will be included. When you only want one of the three, and it is a bare-bones release of apparent 'blah' quality (and you have the HDNet Movies version on your DVR) ... too hard to justify. But Hannibal is one of my favorite movies, so I guess I'll get it eventually.
I added Hannibal but didn't claim it -- I already own Silence of the Lambs, thought Hannibal was terrible, and never saw Manhunter. I picked up Shutter Island instead, and my Black Friday/Cyber Monday is done.
LOL, apparently I wasn't the only one on the fence. I hemmed and hawed, waited till it sold out, then clicked on the waitlist. Then I hemmed and hawed some more, and checked back to find I'd been offered a chance to buy it but missed my window. So I hemmed and hawed, and got back on the waitlist a second time. Then I hemmed and hawed, came here to post about getting down off the fence, and checked back to see I missed a SECOND opportunity to buy it.
I was sitting on the fence as well, having Silence of the Lambs on BD already, BUT...the rate at which MGM/Fox are reissuing the back catalog (only slightly faster than the glacial Paramount) the wait for individual releases of Hannibal and Manhunter could be years away. Plus the price of $17.99 is pretty tough to beat special features or not. So I jumped in. The tough decision will be down the road a-piece when (if) the stand-alone BDs of Hannibal on Manhunter eventually do come.
Lordy, some good points. I was looking down the road, and was hoping that, by abstaining, I'd save myself the need to double-dip should a better version actually DO get released. As a favorite, I certainly would. And I just purchased my first blu-ray double-dip already this morning with Stargate. (Check that, I double dipped T2 also. Grrr.)
I really need Manhunter on blu. I own every other Michael Mann film they've released but I don't feel the need to own another copy of The Silence Of The Lambs (own the Criterion and MGM Special Edition) or that trash called Hannibal.
