Blu-ray enthusiasts who despaired of seeing an Oppo Blu-ray player under their Christmas tree will now breathe a sigh of relief, as the BDP-93 is now available to buy from the Oppo website for $499. The BDP-93 supports the Blu-ray 3D specification (with dual HDMI 1.4a outputs), Netflix Watch Instantly and Blockbuster on Demand, and wireless-N networking.
For full details about the features of the BDP-93, see Blu-ray.com, November 10.
There is also a new product page for an upcoming flagship player, model BDP-95, although no details are available at the time.
@mishal - It won't be region free out of the box, to conform with BDA certification. But mod kits for around $40 will be readily available from 3rd party vendors as soon as they can test them with the BDP-93.
Had the 93 for about a month now...couldn't be happier....moved the 83 to the bedroom and the Pana to the basement....the 93 has a slightly better picture IMO than the 83 so worth the upgrade....
> Does anyone know if they have a trade-up program?
Oppo doesn't have any trade-up program, but the BDP-83 will command a very high price on Ebay.
>I have noticed my 83 does not seem to have grabbed any FW updates lately. Does anyone know if they have simply stopped supporting that model?
Periodically you will see FW updates issued, the 83 has a huge number of users. This is dependent on encountered issues with media or gear, and BD-Live compatibility. Naturally the 93 will be seeing most of the FW updates early into its life for various reasons.
I've had the BDP-93 for over a month now, and it rocks. Note it plays SACDs (like the PS3) and DVD-As (unlike the PS3) and of course has the 7.1 analog outputs that the PS3 doesn't have.
They issued just one firmware upgrade during the 'final beta' period - it is a pretty stable unit.
There was some talk a while back that the 93 may eventually support Pandora but that feature hasn't made it in yet.. maybe in a later firmware I guess.
