Filmmaker Tommy Wiseau has told Entertainment Weekly that he intends to release his cult movie The Room on Blu-ray during the coming year, with additional behind-the-scenes footage. "We want a Blu-ray release before Christmas 2011," he said. Wiseau also revealed that he intends to convert The Room to 3D for theatrical release in late 2011 or in 2012. However, no mention of a 3D Blu-ray release was made.
Wiseau explained that he has "hundreds of emails" asking for behind-the-scenes footage. He said he replies that they'll get them "as soon as we release the Blu-ray."
Entertainment Weekly pressed Tommy for a firm date on the blu-ray:
EW: Do you have a set release date?
Tommy: I cannot tell you... it tis konfidenshull.
EW: Aww, c'mon!
Tommy: No, I can't. Anyway, how is your sex life?
He said on the interview on the DVD release that he actually shot the film with both digital video and film cameras and there's part of me that hopes the Blu-ray release has both versions. More tiny details for us fans to celebrate and laugh at! Also, commentary track. Let's get Criterion in touch with Tommy ASAP.
another great example of how bd is becoming a serious cult movie format.
I've never seen this one, but have wanted to just to experience the supposed fantastic awfulness of it.
Minimejer05, I hope you realize that, although you plan to blind buy, that you at least have an idea what's in store for you with this film. Let's just say it isn't high art or competently written. Of course, it was hilarious so maybe that'll be enough for you.
On a side note, it really ticks me off that this trash will get a release and yet Pulp Fiction, Citizen Kane, Taxi Driver and other bonafide masterpieces still have no word on being released on BD any time soon.
"We want a Blu-ray release before Christmas 2011" - "That son of a bitch told me that I would get it within 3 months. I save them bundles. They're crazy. I don't think I will ever get it. They betray me, they didn't keep their promise, they trick me and I don't care anymore."
snickerskicker, don't worry about it... they're curing people every day...
I'd love to see the digital version and the film version both appear on the BD-50. Wiseau also said he was writing a book about the experience of shooting both versions at the same time.
It is such an amazingly bad film. I tried to see a midnight showing in NYC months ago but it was sold out.
"I'm gonna do what I wanna do. What do you think I should do?"
