The European version of Oppo's BDP-93 player, model number BDP-93EU, is now up for preorder at the website of Oppo BD UK Ltd. Features and technical specifications are identical to those of the BDP-93, with the exception of region coding, which will be set as "2" for DVD and "B" for BD. Price has been set at £499.00 including VAT.
Oppo BD UK will sell to customers in continental Europe; the player will also be available for purchase from authorized local retailers in a dozen European countries.
Last year, Oppo Digital had announced a European product launch, only to cancel it two weeks later (see Blu-ray.com, October 15 and October 28, 2009).
Great news. I had to go through a lot of hassle to get a BDP-80 into the UK a few months ago, without paying a massive amount. Nice to know it'll be easy to get hold of the most universal and easily region-modifiable player here in Europe.

Well, there are a few other differences, like 220V/50Hz-system instead of 110V/60Hz, and a grounded 3-sprong power-connector as opposed (pun) to the 2-sprong non-grounded in North America. Probably some other differences will surface soon.

Quote: "the most universal and easily region-modifiable player". Not anymore, unfortunately. JVBDigital has currently only managed to make this one region-free for DVD, but NOT for BD yet. This new player seems a lot harder to work with than the former one, and many others for that matter. More resources (R&D hours) are needed, but no ETA can be given, unfortunately (according to JVBDigital).
The 93 power supply is 110-240 50/60Hz input so will be the same. However, I can't say for sure since I have the 83 but the power cord itself is only rated for 110. For now I am using a stepdown transformer until I get a 220 rated cord.
