Blu-ray Catalog Wave from MGM in February

Posted December 21, 2010 11:06 AM by Juan Calonge

MGMAn early announcement to retailers indicates that in February 2011, MGM Home Entertainment, in conjunction with 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, will release four Oscar-winning or nominated catalog movies. On February 8, it will release Thelma & Louise (20th Anniversary Edition) (Ridley Scott, 1991). A week later, the studio will release Last Tango in Paris (Bernardo Bertolucci, 1972), Moonstruck (Norman Jewison, 1987), and Rain Man (Barry Levinson, 1988).

Special features have not been revealed at this time. Thelma & Louis is labeled as a 20th Anniversary edition and thus is expected to include some new extras.

"Moonstruck" still holds up quite nicely over twenty years later, great to see it coming to Blu-ray.

I'm very happy to see Moonstruck on the way, since it never received an OAR DVD release.

MGM is doing pretty good with catalogs lately considering the financial troubles. Too bad Disney and Paramount cannot follow thier lead. They have almost abandoned the idea of releasing anything from thier catalog.

Looking forward to picking up Rain Man. It's definitely one that should have already been released. Hopefully it will have the PQ & AQ this title deserves.

This is a nice lineup. I'm especially glad to see Rain Man on the list. It's long overdue. I'm also interested in Last Tango in Paris and Thelma & Louise.

All good releases...price 'em right and I'll end up with all of them. But where the HELL is A Fish Called Wanda??? It never even got a decent DVD release. Let's see some love for John Cleese.

T&L was maybe an OK flick when feminism didn't start to really, truly derail which it has today. But no need to fuel it. Anyway, think what you will of that movie. I'm more interested in Rain man.

2010 - the Year of No Bond

with all due respect, WTF!

Why do we gotta wait till the release a new Bond film before getting our hands on a few more older ones???

With all due respect would it kill you to compose a sentence in proper English.

All good movies, but I already own them on DVD and they look pretty good. I'm waiting for them to release stuff like Motel Hell, Without Warning, Pumpkinhead, The Fog, The Monster That Challenged The World, Gorgo, Blood Beach, Green Slime, Jeepers Creepers 1 & 2.

Last Tango worth a look; wish they would get some old musicals out of the vaults, along with the Bonds of course. Should make some dough on these releases tho; pretty popular stuff in general.

Blu-ray wave?....more like a ripple.

LTIP....I like Marlon Brando but this movie isn't that good IMO. And someone mentioned why would we want to see Marlon naked in HD? I would but all he shows is his butt. And the other nudity is that girl he hangs out with and her out-of-control pubes. I sure as hell don't want to see THAT in HD.
