Despicable Me was the top-selling title on Blu-ray during the week ended December 19, according to Nielsen VideoScan First Alert, moving twice as many units as runner-up Inception. The winner in Blu-ray market share was The Town, with 46% of its total sales coming from the BD edition.
No surprise, Inception hanging in at the top!! Despicable Me was gonna do great numbers, being animated and all those combo packs... + it's a good movie.
"Light bulb!" Good to see Despicable Me at #1 but only 29% Blu percentage. I wonder how many 3D combos it sold. The Sound of Music STILL in the top 10! Wow! The only catalog Blu in the top 10! Quite impressive for a 45 year-old film! Just goes to show how much people love this movie! The Town would probably be higher in the charts if it got a Tuesday release instead of Friday. Still made it in the top 5!
@thelittleprince: Thank you for the reminder about The Town's Friday release. I was surprised that The A-Team and The Other Guys had better sales than The Town.
@Chaotic: Keep in mind animated movies are basically targeted at families/kids, so a lot of moms/dads purchasing these for their youngsters will go for the DVD version.
46% .. that's awesome.. sadly packaged media overall is not selling as good as it used to... I still don't get how you watch a movie on demand.. Where is the BD you proudly display after watching the movie?
