An early announcement to retailers indicates that on March 22, 2011, Vivendi Visual Entertainment will release Scary Movie 4 on Blu-ray. Disc details and special features are unannounced as of yet. This horror movie spoof had been released by The Weinstein Company in 2006 on the defunct HD DVD format.
2 is the least entertaining of the 4, strange since it has David Cross in it. Chris Elliot and Anna Faris were about the only funny thing in that movie. Most of the cast was a waste (seriously, Tori Spelling?). 4 is a pretty good send up of the War of the Worlds remake and Craig Bierko is the pseudo Tom Cruise, and of course Leslie Nielsen is always great, also nice to see they go Pullman to revisit his character from The Grudge. Weird though that they never made another sequel, The Wicker Man was ripe for lampooning.
Personally, I prefer the first 2 Scary Movies (the second one grew on me over time). But the latter 2 are still miles better than any of those Date/Epic/Spartan/Disaster Movies. And of course the great Leslie Nielsen is in this one. Always a plus.
Scary Movie 4 is the first of the series to be released on Blu-Ray? Really? They couldn't start from the beginning? The first one was the best of them all, and this is where they start.
The fourth movie was the weakest of them all. This is an interesting anncouncement, to say the least.
It's obvious why everyone seems to like the first two scary movies, they were written and directed by the Wayan Brothers who are hysterical! And I agree they were the funnier ones of the 4. On the other hand, the last two were directed also by the legendary goofball director David Zucker of Airplane and Naked Gun fame, totally different type of comedy but still funny. But if I had to pick between the four, I will absolutely pick the first two by the Wayan brothers, and did I hear someone say David Cross is not funny? sorry my friend, I bet that same person think that Kat Williams is funny.
1 & 2 were the only funny ones in the series. Once the Wayans left and the humor was watered down it was no longer funny to me. I actually saw Scary Movie 3 in the theaters and that was it for me. Never saw #4. To me the Scary Movie franchise is in the same boat with the "Movie" movies franchise. No thanks. Just give me #2 on Blu ray so I can have the funny pair.
I only like 1 & 2, I thought 3 & 4 were rubbish, I don't think I smiled during 3 or 4 let alone laugh. I liked the first two, maybe I just like the Waynes sense of humour as opposed to whoever wrote 3 & 4. For me the 1st is the best & then 2 & that's where it ends. Now if they could just release 2 on blu
My preference is for the 2nd and 3rd. The first one always rubbed me the wrong way because they were doing a spoof of Scream, which is a satire... and thus unnecessary. Scream is already funny because it's playing with the conventions of horror. Once they broke away from the Scream structure with the second one, I felt the Wayans Brothers were better armed to have their kind of fun, and they reached an absolute high with this one. The third marked a return of Zucker to the spoof business (The "ZAZ" movies are all guilty pleasures of mine) and the resulting return of that old school approach to spoof. I welcomed it because it was fresh and Zucker came to it with an obvious passion. Once the 4th hit, that passion seemed gone to the rigors of formula and I stopped paying attention.
Very funny movie - I love where after the Tom Cruise character gets done working a crane in a shipyard, he mentions how he does the same thing day in and day out. In the next scene, he's playing a crane game at a restaurant.
I was hopeing we would also be getting Scary Movie 3 as well.
I really like 4 but 3 is definately my favorite.
"good god, the small ones have metal teeth... Jerry's kids my @ss"
"our Native american friends, Hey! how are you?...... Hey how r ya, Hey how r ya....."
I like 1 and 2 as well but 3&4 are great cause David Zucker understands exactly what it is that makes these parody films funny. Something that Seltzer and Freedburg dont get, as much as i wanted to like it cause a real good friend I have known since childhood had a pretty decent size role in the film,(and was actually her first big film role) Datemovie totally missed the point of doing a spoof.
