Paramount Home Entertainment has announced Megamind for Blu-ray release on February 25, in a BD/DVD "Mega Double Pack," including a new Megamind adventure, titled "The Button of Doom," featuring members of the original voice cast. Although this Dreamworks Animation movie was produced and shown theatrically in 3D, only a 2D BD version has been announced at the moment. Going from previous DWA titles, such as How to Train Your Dragon 3D and Monsters vs. Aliens 3D, a 3D version may come out as part of a Samsung 3D hardware bundle.
With this one's less than impressive results ($253 Million in Worldwide Box Office on a $130 Million budget), hopefully Dreamworks will stop giving us lazy animated offerings. Megamind was one of the major disappointments of the year for me.
I thought "Megamind" was a very good movie. It sure wasn't no "Toy Story 3" or "How to Train Your Dragon" but it does come close to a "Despicable Me" offering. Can't wait to own this when it comes out.
We saw this one at a local $2 theater. It was not bad, not great , but not bad. the kids loved it so we get it at some point when the price dips below $15
Yup, these 3D Samsung Exclusives are really helping the Blu-ray 3D format. Katzenberg is on record dozens of times saying how 3D is going to be a major player in home video, and that more titles are needed. So what does he do? Gives every Dreamworks 3D title Samsung exclusivity. And not only that, he doesn't release them afterwards. Monsters vs Aliens (discontinued for over 3 months) and How to Train your Dragon (discontinued more than one month) are both discontinued with the Samsung starter kit, it is now Shrek that is part of the kit. So where are the retail versions of the other 2? He's a hypocrite.
They need to stop these promo deals. If they want to offer a 3d title as part of a package ,fine but release the disc it self. Is 3d this bad off, that they have to do these package deals
I never got to see Megamind in theaters, but I really wanted to, so this Blu-ray release is a buy at most and a rent at least. Too bad there's no 3D Blu-ray. Oh well, wouldn't do me any good since I don't have a 3DTV, but what about the slowly growing population of people that do?!
