I like this movie, and would have been Day 1 purchase for me if it contained the theatrical cut too. But now I will just wait until new special edition or when it goes down for less than $10. I have my DVD until then.
I would've bought this Day 1 but unfortunately, no Best Buys in my area. I guess I'll have to eBay this and hope I get it in perfect condition from a decent seller. It's ridiculous that Future Shop's exclusives in Canada are sold at Best Buys in the U.S. but when it comes to the U.S.'s Best Buy's exclusives, they don't come across the border at all.
I'll probably double-dip since it has a bunch of extras. But the absence of the theatrical cut is a major disappointment. Yes, the "Untitled" version is better, but I don't see why seamless branching wasn't used. I hope the transfer and DTS HD-MA track improve upon the Sony UK disc.
One of my top 10 movies of all time, I have the deluxe version on DVD that is a limited edition with theatrical and "Bootleg" version plus a Stillwater CD but I will be picking this up next Sunday for sure!!! Great Flick, If anyone asks on the blind buy, YES YES YES!!!
Kinda upset that the "Bootleg Cut" on DVD was a 2-Disc set with both the theatrical and bootleg versions of the film (as well as special features), and this version is 1 disc with only one version of the film. It's inevitable that they will have an anniversary edition at some point with 2 discs...I think I'll wait until then.
Love this under appreciated movie but a triple dip is uncalled for. I'll wait and see if those Anniversary stings are real. A further price drop down the road wouldn't hurt though.
P.s. Anyone know when Vanilla Sky will arrive on Bluray?! Now that I want badly, hopefully they'll release that sooner than later with care and everything in it, I mean everything!
This is a great movie but I won't buy the Best Buy exclusive version because I already have the UK Blu-ray, which is the extended version. I wish the theatrical cut would be released on Blu-ray (I have it on DVD) because they cut the song "Wishing Well" by Free from the scene where William tells the band they will be on the cover of Rolling Stone. Jason Lee (Jeff Bebe in movie) based his moves as lead singer on Paul Rodgers, the lead singer of Free and Bad Company. I know this sounds trivial, and you can hardly hear the song because it is playing in the background at Max's Kansas City, but I consider it to be a thank you to Paul Rogers for his inspiration.
@rjmacnc - I've tried ordering from BestBuy.com a couple times now and they always cancel my orders for some reason. I tried calling their customer support and waited on hold for 35 minutes before having someone finally answer and telling me they don't know why my orders were canceled. After that experience, I've become iffy with trying again.
If anyone would be willing to purchase me a copy of this and ship it to me, I'd greatly appreciate it. I get paid on the 31st so I could easily forward $30 to you via PayPal. Message me if interested in helping out!
Bootleg DVD never did it for me because they gimped the Director's cut's audio.
I would choose the theatrical cut with the dts track over the Director's with Dolby, sounded more robust to me.
Now the extended with lossless, that's the ticket, definitely picking this one up.
I own the original "bootleg" edition as well, and regret the new blu-ray best buy edition doesn't have the original cut as well. I'll still retain my standard set because of the cd and other extras. I just preordered this. Question: Tridon, assuming you're in Canada, why can't you purchase this via Best Buy on-line and have it shipped to your Canadian address?
@TheDoug I've tried ordering from Best Buy on several occasions and they always cancel my order a few days later with zero explanations. In fact, I called the customer service line and they couldn't even figure out why my orders were being canceled.
I have no doubts that the "Bootleg Cut" is an interesting version of the film, but for time's sake it would've been great to have the nicely paced theatrical cut.
I loved the theatrical version, but the "Bootleg" version made this my favorite movie of all time. I own all versions of the film and I'll pick up the US blu-ray since the UK version lacks most of the bonus features.
Anyone who has not seen this by now obviously does not like the 70s ROCK-N-ROLL. It is as a CULT CLASSIC as a movie can be. Absolutely fantastic. Cannot wait to see how the Lossless Audio on this one will sound. I actually saw the band STILLWATER in their heyday opening for a Canadian 3 piece band called TRIUMPH when they were just getting started. Great show although TRIUMPH stold the show who later broke out to be a great success and one of my favorite bands of all time. Been waiting for this one to come to BLU-RAY for a long time. Definately will be purchasing this one.
One of my all time favorite movies. I bought the UK import 2 years ago when I first got into Bluray. It is also the "bootleg" cut but quite a few have complained about the video. Anyone know if its been improved over the past 2 years ?
