Apparently today is Retailer Exclusivity Day. Sony Pictures' animated cult movie Heavy Metal, initially announced for Blu-ray release on January 25 and later cancelled (see Blu-ray.com, November 15 and December 6, 2010), is now available for preorder exclusively at Best Buy, with a release date of February 1.
Thanks to forum members "PowellPressburger" and "dugnarug."
Awesome dudes! One of, if not, the best animated film to come out of the 80s! Great soundtrack too, which I just recently picked up! Steelbook would be a nice, but hoping for at least a great Sony transfer and lossless audio. Anyone know if it was restored or what work went into bringing this one to Blu?
Well, this is no good; as usual, Best Buy exclusives are not available here in Canada and Best Buy US won't ship to Canada. I really hate Best Buy; they suck
@backgroundactorman
At least the Future Shop exclusives are all for movies that are available everywhere so you can still get the movie. You get a steelbook at FS; but in the case of Heavy Metal (and Anchorman before that) these movies aren't available elsewhere and that really sucks. We'll probably have to wait three to six months for it to be available at all retailers...
At least you guys get the friggin movie. Even if you don't get those "exclusive" steelbooks, at least you get the amaray. We're stuck without the movie until a later release date.
Along with Sleepy Hollow, the Heavy Metal DVD looks fantastic when upscaled on a Bluray player. Probably in my top 5 of best upconverted discs in my collection.
For those who aske about the canadian branches, I bouth the green miles while it was an exclusive at Best Buy so you can still hope that later the title could be availaible within a couple of weeks.
