Warner Home Video has announced Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation for Blu-ray release on April 19 (separately, not in a double-feature SKU). With the purchase of either title, you can receive a voucher code for a free exclusive Jade character costume download for the PS3 version of the upcoming Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment game Mortal Kombat, also coming out on April 19. A digital copy is also included.
Special features are lacking BAAAAD, but I hope more time is spent in the conversion to be at least decent. April 19th is definitely Mortal Kombat day- Getting both of these and the game.
From what I remember from the time, There werent any making of specials from both mortal kombat movies on the tv side. An episode of defenders of the realm and the live action series from the 90's would be a nice touch. As far as prince goro, I agree that he looked very realistic and the scene at the dinner table with kano. "You mean underground????...Something like that.... I would buy them as a double pack if it was a two for the price of one! OUTSTANDING!
Absolutely getting at least the first one, it's a classic movie and still one of the best videogame movies to date. I don't remember much of Annihilation though, not a good sign...
That's awesome that they're including "The Journey Begins..." as a special feature on the first film. I loved that animated film and had it on VHS. Lost it while moving, though, and I was pretty pissed about that. It'll be great to watch it again. I was never a huge fan of Annihilation, mostly due to the fact that 95% of the cast changed, my favourite character (Johnny Cage) didn't last too long and Shao Kahn hardly wore his mask. They just tried to cram too much into it for the running time it lasted.
EDIT: It's too bad Warner isn't willing to release these in a bundle with the new PS3 game like they did with Watchmen.
First one was way better no doubt but I'm a completist so I'll pick up both. I hope they take the game back to it's roots. I was a huge MK junkie back in the day.
The first movie is a guilty pleasure (a bit dated, but still fun), and the second movie is a modern day Plan 9. I'm in for both for entirely different reasons.
has it been confirmed MK1 will have lossless audio? I have the Canadian import and it came with a rather muted soundtrack, although the PQ was very good.
I honestly LOVE the first movie as for the second one that everyone seems to despise I LOVE it too. I love that it looks so cheaply made lol. I will get em both and enjoy the shit out of em. Here's hoping that they re-spawn the franchise some day. MORTAL KOMBAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just an honest typo, dude. I was trying to quote that funny line of the movie, from the youtube video that has over 3 million views. I didn't meant to irritate you. haha
man awsome finally i can ditch both my mk dvds i got in 2001 but i wont use that free jade chariter for the upcoming mk game cause i dont have a ps3 nor want 1 and 2 im buying it on my 360 oh well guess ill sell it lol im hapy this is coming out i gues canada had it since last year damn u canada hogging the good stuff lol
i'll get the first, most def. but Annihilation? that was the first movie i paid to see in theaters and walked out on. i was 13 at the time and should have been a fantastic sequel considering how awesome the MK games were, but even at that age, i couldn't bear what i was witnessing.
@The Gunsliner, I agree that Annihilation is pretty weak, but I'm happy to see any title released on BD. That being said, I like the original and will be picking it up.
STILL no sign of the old commentary track from the Laserdisc edition...pity, I thought that was a pretty decent commentary even though the producer messed up one of the song names.
Nice that they're including the animated special, as it ties in pretty tightly with the movie (even though the animation has dated horribly) and gives more backstory to several of the characters in the movie. The original LD of that special also included a great archival Making Of featurette. Wonder if that will be on this as welll (though doesn't look like it, sadly).
Will never forget how hard my friends and I laughed seeing the first "Mortal Kombat" at the $1.00 show back when it was initially released. Still think the "Cage vs. Scorpion" fight scene was the best aspect of the film, and the casting of Christopher Lambert as "Raiden" the funniest. The original film was really cheesy (but fun to watch and laugh at), the sequel was just plain bad...will maybe pick up "MKI" when it drops below the $10 mark.
