Wow, there's usually at least one movie I'm interested in in these waves of catalog, but none this time Oh well, I'm sure some people will be happy about a few of these.
If I'm not mistaken, it's undergoing a restoration(or at least will be) before they re-release it on Blu-ray. I just hope we get the original mono track(in a high bitrate) whenever it does come out.
BTW, not that I really care, but why is Legally Blonde 2 being released before the first one?
To MGM to MGM LeChiam! Fiddler on the Roof is going to be incredible! As for the other titles, a bit of a confusing mix there, United Artists has some great films that I think would sell better. The question is, with the news that Sony will be releasing MGM titles, will this higher output of BD titles continue there?
There was an All dogs go to heaven 2? And its getting released before The Land Before Time? I wonder if there was a noticable drop in quality like with the land before time sequels.
What no Teen Wolf Too? It's a showcase of the finest acting ever by Mr. Jason Bateman. But All dogs Go To Heaven and its sequel and Secret of Nimh is a good sign that more Don Bluth films are likely to come such as the American Tail films and ultimately the first Land Before Time. This is the most nostalgic year in Blu-Ray so far.
I'll pick up Material Girls and Legally Blonde 2. Even though I don't understand why the first isn't being released! I'll probably pick up others down the road. For some reason, I don't remember liking All Dogs that much as a child but maybe I'll give them a shot!
Fiddler on the Roof!!! Oh my gosh, that deserved its own headline for crying out loud!! How could you lump that in with goofy fair like Legally Blonde 2?
Its kind of funny how every MGM release post has 10 comments demanding "THE REST OF THE BOND MOVIES RIGHT NOW!" Not that I don't agree with the sentiment, but funny still.
Some of the folks on here praising Nimh and ADGTH 1&2 would probably do well to rent the DVDs before you spend your cash on the blu-rays. I doubt it'll live up to how great you thought it was when you were 7.
"The Secret of NIMH" for me. I remember reading the book on which the movie is based "Mrs Frisby and the Rats of NIMH" as a child so the animated movie has always had a certain nostalgia value for me.
Needing Quantum deffinitely. Also, if they are remastering Terminator, I would hope they wouldn't take Fox's approach and scrub it like they did Predator. That looked awful.
@chiltonj, my third grade teacher read us that book so when they made the movie I was very excited and it was fantastic.
Ask ANYONE in animation and they will all tell you The Secret of N.I.M.H. was a return to form for animation. It shook Disney from their complacency and got them back on track after The Black Cauldron.
Also Don Bluth was my father's college roommate at UCLA so his films have extra resonance with me. Bring on Land Before Time and Titan A. E.!
Legally Blonde came out in 2001 - if they are releasing the far less popular and much loathed sequel, it can only mean they are planning a "10 Year Anniversay" edition of the first movie at some point this year. Though, it would have made more sense to release them simultaneously - I can't imagine the sequel will get much sales excitement on it's own.
Oh, and Teen Wolf + All Dogs 1 for me, though I do wish they would stick Teen Wolf Too with Teen Wolf like they did on DVD. Much like their release of Poltergeist 2 alone earlier this month (when the DVD featured both 2 and 3), it probably means we won't be seeing Teen Wolf Too (or Poltergeist 3) on Blu any time soon. I hope I'm wrong.
I might grab Fiddler when the price goes down. Love the movie, but don't see myself watching it all that often.
Teenwolf! An American classic, I am so pumped for this one. Still waiting for them to do a "reboot" and have Justin Bieber as the new teenwolf...(joking about the reboot btw.)
Regarding Paramount: They want BD to fail. That's why they put out few BDs and choose the mostly their B and even C grade titles with maybe one or two A category films a year just to look good.
Agree that Fiddler On The Roof deserves its own headline. My concern is that this film was "soft" and dark when I saw it in theatres. On BD if it's not mastered properly that softness could translate into a mushy lackluster image. Hopefully this won't be the case but I'd wait until a few reviews are in before ordering this one.
I never understand me on MGM. The could release a series that everyone is waiting for, but no.
So what are these bozos releasing!!!! yes "fidler on the roof!"............................................. my god.
No wounder this company almost did get out of business.
What other studio is releasing half of a series and they stop. And now they are giving the franchises distribution to another studio where we most likely must buy the entire series AGAIN!, who do MGM think they are anyway. ?
Do we REALLY need a film as bad as secret of nimh on blu-ray? It's incomprehensible, ugly, and juvenile. Fine for bland, mindless kiddie fodder, but hardly worth blu-ray....and there's simply no wonder it flopped.
It's only saving grace is it's a notch better than all dogs go to heaven--even if it pales to the insane brilliance of Rock-a-Doodle.
Yeah, Teen Wolf is a guilty pleasure I didn't expect for several years. The transformation scene in the bathroom with his father knocking on the door is classic Michael J. Fox ("Don't come in, I'm doing something." "You can tell me, son, I'll understand." "Uh, no Dad, not this time..."). Worth the upgrade, esp. without the awful, unfunny sequel.
I love Secret of NIMH & All Dogs Go To Heaven (only the original) - I can't wait for An American Tail and The Land Before Time!! Bring on the Bluth movies!!!
Will Be Picking up Secret Of Nimh and both All Dogs films(although part 2 will be a blind buy) and Teen Wolf. MIght get Legally Blonde 2 since i like Reese Witherspoon but overall I dont remember that movie much.
All Dogs Go to Heaven, All Dogs Go to Heaven 2, Picture This, The Secret of NIMH, Material Girls, Teen Wolf and Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde and Fiddler on the Roof.
Sill no Bond movies come on all those movies suck compared to the Bond movies. No offense if you love those movies.
Fiddler on the roof, no doubt about getting it.
I wish it means West Side Story might be on the way as well, since this will be its 50th anniversary...
