The Diamond Edition of Bambi was the top-selling title on Blu-ray during the week ended March 6, according to Nielsen VideoScan First Alert. Disney's 1942 animated feature sold more BDs than the rest of the top ten put together, and was the top-selling title on packaged media overall on the strength of its BD/DVD combo sales alone. The highest-selling new release was Burlesque, which entered at number 3, behind Megamind in its first full week in stores.
Bambi looks great, but you try explaining hd remastering to a 5 year old. I gave up and just told my daughter that "they repainted the colors, baby." Kid doesn't know how good she has it round here these days. Maybe I should show her a vhs taped off an antenna received tv broadcast from when I was a kid, when dinosaurs roamed the earth and we walked uphill both ways in snowstorms to get to school.
Wow, not only is Bambi at #1, but it sold more copies than the rest of the top 10 combined! I hope Disney is pleased with these results and pushes more titles through to Blu-ray, as long as they each get a proper restoration, even the more obcure titles. Some of my favorite Disney classics are not part of any of their prestigious collections: The Great Mouse Detective, Hercules, Tarzan, etc.
Loved the Blu-ray,it had been years since I had watched it,I appreciated the hard work behind the Art Production, very interesting extras.May the "Old" Disney animation never die!
i gave it a blind buy since i never saw it before, but i loved the quality found in beauty and the beast for once, and second, i love OLD movies.1942 was a good year if you dont think about the war.beautifull movie i should say and i read a member`s review saying it wasnt only for children. true, really true. its full of nice artistic touch and soundtrack is varied and give something for all ages.seriously.its been 2 i bough from disney and it OOZE quality. i can only wish warner brothers do the same with bugs bunny. a favorite hero of mine
Glad to see people embracing Faster on blu, That movie is really good and good sales should mean that dwayne johnson takes more roles like that in the future. Is it too early to jump on the sequel bandwagon?
It is amazing that a 70 year old film is the best selling blu ray for the week. I remember watching Bambi in the theater when I was a kid. (Disney used to re-release their classic animation every few years). Can you imagine a world where there would have never been a man named Walt Disney? We are blessed. Thanks Disney for the wonderful blu ray presentation of Bambi, and I look forward to future Disney titles on Blu. Bravo !
anyway, yay! My local shopko only carried the DVD packaging but it was blu-ray anyway and it was surprisingly cheap even after the coupon so hell yeahz!
Edit: Snake In My Boots, she's five. she wont care if she has a VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, or film strip. she wants the movie and will enjoy it regardless at that age. formats are complicated for anyone.
And if I can convince anyone, I'm first in Line for Winnie the Pooh when it hits theaters.
