I mean really, it's just like Dumbo. It's been released in every civilized country on the planet except the U.S. which is the country it was made in.
What is going on with people in charge of releasing blu-rays these days?
American films getting released everywhere else except the U.S
Needlessly splitting movies over multiple discs to jack up the prices and shoving pointless dvd's in with them and the opposite as well, combining movies way too long on to 1 disc.
Promoting movies to be released on blu-ray and then having it be almost 5 years later and STILL NO RELEASE
Seriously, is the blu-ray format eventually gonna be done in by studios who are stupid enough to repeat the mistakes of Nascar and pro wrestling and eventually collapse under the weight of its own stupidity?
I agree with yojoeski in saying why the hell would you release a sequel of The Crow when the original isn't even out in the U.S.. Either way i'll be buying The Crow: City of Angels on day 1 of release.
It's nice that Halloween H2O is coming out but i wish some of the other Halloween movies would come out. The original is out on Blu-ray so why can't we have the other movies? Either way i'll also be buying Halloween H2O on day 1 of release.
I already own the Canadian Alliance import of From Dusk Till Dawn so i'll be passing on the U.S. release.
i dont konw why all you guys are bitching about a sequel being released before its previous movie.. this has been happening for years now with BD.. just look at some of the titles
The Santa Clause 3 BD- No 1 or 2
American Pie 4 or 5 BD- No 1, 2 or 3
Scary Movie 1 and 4 BD- No 2 or 3
Trolls 2 BD- No 1
Their are much much more I konw im forgetting.. but the point is this is nothing new, i dont know why they do this and im with all you guys on first releases.. but lets just all be happy catalog titles are getting pushed out this fast.. 2011 is looking pretty good so far for catalog titles and were only in the first quarter of this year!!
Yes! Halloween: H20!!! This makes me very happy. This is a day-one for me. One of my top 5 guilty pleasure horror movies. I love the style of the horror movies from the late 90's, it makes them so much fun to watch. (like Scream, Scream 2, The Faculty, I know What You Did Last Summer, Halloween H20, Urban Legend) They are satires, but still scary, not too watered-down like horror movies from the early 2000's, since they're rated R (not PG-13) and don't take themselves too seriously. I'd love to see "The Faculty" get released by Echo Bridge from the Miramax/Dimension catalog really soon on USA Blu-ray. I already imported the Canadian Alliance release, but, I would definitely buy it again when it gets a USA release.
I've purchased: The Halloween Triple Feature, and From Dusk Till Dawn on Blu-ray from Canada last year. The transfers are very good, especially From Dusk Till Dawn. Halloween Triple Feature consists of:
Halloween H2O, Halloween Resurrection, and Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers.
The reason quite a few of the sequels are out and not the originals is because some movies (Hallowe'en being a perfect example) have different distributors. The first three (?) Halloween movies are owned by AnchorBay, while the last three are Dimension/Miramax/Alliance owned. And that is the same reason why there are quite a few movies released in, say the UK, and not released here:
Kick-Ass (US --> Lionsgate/Maple, UK --> Universal)
Zodiac (US --> Paramount, UK --> Warner Bros.)
There are other reasons why I'm sure, but those are at least a few of the reasons.
I know many of us are all disappointed because The Crow sequel is being released before the original but I'm sure those studio insiders are listening to the groaning of their fans. We'll get it sometime this year. But hey! At least we're getting a proper release of From Dusk Till Dawn!
Great news this morning! Halloween: H20 and From Dusk Till Dawn Day 1 for me. The Crow 2 and The Yards pass. Wow people are really passionate about The Crow. To eachs own I guess but I thought it was pretty bad as well as all the sequels (DMX anyone, hahaha)
Why are so many people so excited about FDTD and H20? You could have bought them both for less than $10 each from any Canadian retailer for the last year or two. Both are OAR AVC video with lossless audio. Echo Bridge is not going to be putting out a superior product, trust me, they're no better than Alliance in Canada.
Well i went ahead and pre orderd the h20 disc, even though i allready own the alliance disc. Incase it ends up looking like H20 might end up with some suppliments. (i realize it probably wont) and I am prepared to cancel it very quickly once reviews of the disc are posted. I am very happy with the alliance 3 movie set so if i cancel this its no biggie.
The only thing that would get me to double-dip on H20 (I also have the Alliance disc) would be a director's cut with the original score. Those Marco Beltrami temp tracks from Scream are truly horrendous.
Well lets see here, which one of these tilte(s) do i want? ZERO,NADA!
I am still waiting for Universal to release Halloween 2 with all the added TV scenes branched, this si the only worthy Halloween sequel in my Opion. Oh and The Crow with Bradon Lee is the only one in the franchise i will be picking up as well, the other s a meh
Wow The Crow 2 with no The Crow coming out that sucks. The could have released the 160 minute D.C. version of Crow 2.
The Yards I will check that out because James Gray did a good job on We Own the Night. I always wondered how he got all those big name actors, it is because he directed them in the Yards back when they were starting to come up big.
I think The Crow was released in the UK several years ago but is unfortunately region locked. I never got around to buying the canadian From Dusk Till Dawn BD. I love that movie so I'll definitely pick it up. I'll get Halloween H2O as well.
I already own the Canadian Dusk Til Dawn...and it's a great transfer, but the audio mix is so dynamic. One moment the dialogue is crisp and clear, then out of nowhere an explosion will occur and the audio just EXPLODES. I find myself constantly turning the volume up or down depending on the scene. If the audio mix is a bit more stabilized for the American release and the transfer remains the same, I'll happily double dip.
The Crow isn't out because apparantly Alex Proyas has been rumored to be working on a remaster of the film and getting some of the lost footage ready for release. It's not believed it's going to be put back into the film but at least be seen as extras on the disc. Specifically full skull cowboy scenes not just the glimpses seen on the special edition DVD release. It has been rumored and intended for a while now for it to be a 2012 BR release.
THE YARDS - FINALLY!! James Gray's films are gorgeous to look at. He uses incredibly moody paintings as reference for the lighting in his films, making for sumptuous visuals! I can't wait to grab this one on Blu!
You know what's interesting to me, In one of Kevin Smith's talks he talked about putting in his "from dusk till dawn" blu-ray and showing his wife something. And this talk was from at least a year or so ago, so i wonder how long ago they make them before they get released. and if special people in the industry get their hands on them before they come out.
I'll upgrade my BD of FDTD on day 1 if it comes with a lot of extras and Full Tilt Boogie. Its one of my favourite films of the 90s.
I'm going to wait on Halloween H20 until the complete collection comes out.
The other 2 films announced are crap.
There was a release in Canada by Alliance in 2008, Kevin Smith was probably talking about that.
As far as special people getting there hands on a movie before it comes out, it happens (ex. Sigourney Weaver giving the Alien Anthology Blu-ray as a gift to her daughter christmas 2009), but generally only to people involved in the movie.
When The Crow first came out on DVD in 98, it was an earlier title and someone messed up and the first several minutes were too bright. They came out with a Collectors Edition 10 years ago today 03/20/01 that was alot better and now 10 years later I am waiting still waiting for Blu. I hope the first one gets released @ least by this fall so I can enjoy it in syle on Devil's Night! R.I.P. Brandon Lee (February 1, 1965 – March 31, 1993)
