Existing Miramax Blu-ray Titles Shift to Lionsgate

Posted March 24, 2011 06:20 AM by Juan Calonge

Lionsgate FilmsOn May 3, all Miramax movies previously released on Blu-ray by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will be re-released by Lionsgate Home Entertainment. This will reassure enthusiasts who feared that some or all of these titles could go out of print. List price is generally $19.99, except for Adventureland and No Country for Old Men (Collector's Edition), which are $24.99. The studio has confirmed to Blu-ray.com that in most cases, the discs themselves will be substantively identical, with the same special features.

The list of re-released titles includes:

"List price is generally, except for Adventureland..."

Missing the list price.

Good to hear. Note that the list includes Dimension Films in addition to Miramax.

Are 'The Lookout' and 'Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman' accounted for yet? Those are the only other two (with 'Becoming Jane' going to Echo Bridge for some reason - and already announced also).

Lionsgate's site currently shows J&SBSB as having all of the special features from the DVD, hopefully that's true, and it's not another 'Spider-Man Essentials' deal.

::Sigh:: I wish they'd drop the "Special Edition" and "Collector's Edition" nonsense. They don't mean anything these days.

@HartfordC

I doubt it'll be a new edition for Gangs of New York. I'm sure these are just repackaging with Lionsgate logos.

Finally I'll be able to pick up Hero at a reasonable price. For some reason it's always $30 and up on Amazon.

Still need to get Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2, and maybe Bad Santa as well. Hope the re-release of the latter will still have the unrated cut of the film.

Most of the movies will not even be in new packaging. They are just putting new barcodes on the old cases.

How about US releases for: The Crow, Swingers, Good Will Hunting...heck I'd even get Don't Be A Menace!

This is a good move by Lionsgate to release all the existing Miramax blus and ensure uninterrupted availability of that Miramax's strong lineup. I also like that the prices will be more reasonable and competitive than under Disney. Maybe some of them will be reissued, down the line, with better transfers (though I don't really expect that from Lionsgate) -- just a wish for certain films.

The films from that list I most want to pick up are Hero, The Queen and both parts of Kill Bill (which I wish they would release in a single package already).

I hope J&SBSB is not one of the "most cases".

Dose anybody know if Princess Mononoke is still with Miramax or did it revert back to Disney since they are releasing the Studio Ghibli titles?

Instead of re-releasing Kill Bill vol. 1 & 2, how about just releasing THE WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR!!! It would make a helluva lot more sense than re-releasing something that's been out forever that many people have held off buying because of the inevitable Bloody Affair release (me being one of those many). Just frickin' do it already, we've already been waiting for wwwaaaaaayyyyyy too long!!! We got Grindhouse, now we need Kill Bill dammit!

@Matthias77 Kill Bill Vol. 3 is scheduled for release in 2014 (at least according to IMDB), so I don't think the "Whole Bloody Affair" will be out anytime soon.

@futureblu You're right about Mononoke Hime (Princess Mononoke) but don't forget Ella Enchanted and an American release of How Princess Mononoke Was Born on Blu.
