Panasonic Displays Car In-Dash Blu-ray Player

Posted October 25, 2007 06:08 PM by Josh Dreuth

Blu-ray Disc At the 2007 Toyko Motor Show, Panasonic revealed the first Blu-ray player to be used specifically inside an automobile. The player, which has support for all Blu-ray features include BD-Java playback, connects to an LCD screen via an HDMI cable. No price or release date has been announced for the player at this time.

Fans will also note that the player looks strikingly similar to the Panasonic BD-10 Blu-ray player. A very nice touch.

"is the difference between dvd and bd noticeable on a screen that small? "

Seems unlikely. But you won't need to buy two versions for the tv-glued kids.

maybe you wont notice much picture difference. but give me pcm or dts ma in my car and watch my ears bleed! can you say acdc live BD. also it looks like it connects to a lcd display via hdmi so for rv motorhomes i guess you could hook it up to the 60" plasma in the master beedroom!

"CJS234 QUOTE: wasnt there somebody asking about one of these? Well here you go."

I had asked something like this earlier only I was a little more specific in that I wanted to know about JUST BD-Audio for the sole purpose of music entertainment only. But nevertheless, its a step in the right direction...

I agree someone could take a few Blu titles on a road trip for the kids or have music dvd's in surround
sound I for one have a wicked system in my car. Would sound great. I can see this on "Pimp My Ride"

May the Blu be with you...

Now the soccer moms have something to keep the kids busy. Wonder what sound decoding it will use and how much it will cost.

This is good now that we can watch movies in are cars. Take that hd dvd! And for the people saying will they notice a difference, here is my thoughts. If blu-ray is to replace dvd we will need this and this will be another reason why blu-ray is better than hd dvd.

Blu-ray can fit a boat-load more of information on the disc. You could fit about 5 dvd quality movies on 1 blu-ray disc.

Does anyone know what's going on with BD-java?

Thank you very much, I've to say I told you so, there was a thread about this a while back were I talked about Pannys prototype that I had seen almost a year ago, everybody said it was pointless cause the screen size but they were not thinking outside the box, the point is to be able to play your blu-rays on the go, why have dvd & BD, its about full adoption of the format (not oh the screens to small) YOU NEVER SEEN A MOVIE IN A CAR LOL. My Super Charged & Intercooled 350z sittin on black 20's is more than ready for that Panny-Blu-Ray !!!!!!!!

It's not a matter of how it will look, it's the matter of being able to play your blu collection anywhere, like you can dvd's now. It's portability. It's not PQ!

LOL! I knew it would come out eventually, but this is insane! I imagine a screen showing that kind
of resolution in a car would be pointless.. hard to see any of the details unless it is a big screen.
Crazy!

You guys are so wrong about picture quality not being any better. Imagine a screen (no matter how small) being able to resolve that many lines of pixels. That would definitely be a clearer sharper picture. Even on portable players.
