Spider-Man 3 Sells 130K in Six Days on Blu-ray

Posted November 8, 2007 12:30 AM by Josh Dreuth

Sony Pictures Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has revealed that the Blu-ray release of 'Spider-Man 3' sold 130,000 copies the first six days at retail, 15,000 more copies than the Transformers HD DVD was reported to have sold its first week on store shelves. Having shipped 400,000 copies to retailers, this represents a 30% sell-off for the title.

David Bishop, President of Sony commented, "We are well-placed for the holidays. We got in before the key shopping season, and now you'll have more people getting into the market, as new players are launching from Sony, Sharp, Panasonic [among others]. It's our hope that they walk out with a player and Spider-Man 3."

The 130,000 sold does not include copies given away as part of a Sony promotion to provide the title to those who purchase a 40GB PS3. Sony expects demand to increase throughout the holiday season, with 'Spider-Man 3' to remain a top seller.

I love it! And they can't help but add that this doesn't include "give-away" totals! That's a total knock on the A2 sale, IMO! Ahhh, the sweet smell of success...

so does that count the Spidey 3 blurays that were included in the boxed set?

I'd like to ask the same question as Ziggy. I know that there's going to be a lot of talk about this (and wether this is a lie and whatnot, and how it didn't beat Transformer's initial estimated numbers).

Great news about Spidey too.

Wow so blu-ray kills HD-Dud with actual sales numbers. Who didn't see this coming. There is a reason blu has more fans and lots of enemys. Every person that adopted HD-Dud is wishing they would have waited or that they could step up to blu-ray. Thats why they hate us.

It has to be tough when small titles like Spiderman, POTC, and Pixar films outsell HD-DVD blockbusters like Mr.Bean's Holiday.

Oh. almost forgot. Good job yet again blu. And thanks Spidey.

I'm guessing this includes box sets. We'll be able to figure out the exact numbers for each on Friday. Then we'll know how many Spidey 1 and 2 sold as well. Definitely a high volume Blu-ray week and I think this week (Pixar week) is going to be even higher. Watch those YTD and SI numbers start changing.

Does anyone know if this is just for Spidey 3 or is it also counting the boxset. Still fantastic news!!
And so the holiday season has begun.

This is awesome!!! I can't wait to get mine. I have to admit, I was a little scared for a minute because I thought it would be close between Transformers ans Spidey.

I think it's just the SM3 stand alone. I say that because WickyWoo seems steadfast in this and the fact the press release says "Spiderman3" not Spiderman3 and Trilogy. But ONLY sm3.

This is SM3 alone. The boxset didn't do as well(Except on amazon of course)

Totally sweet
And that's only in six days. I bet that on top of that SM3 will keep up good sales better than TF.
