I remember enjoying it growing up. However, as with other movies like Better Off Dead and Fletch, after rewatching it as an adult I say with confidence that I had horrible taste as a kid. It' pretty awful--charicatures and cliches abound. Good guy from the city moves to a small town and falls for--get this--the preacher's wild daughter. The preacher is the ringleader of adults who have banned music and dancing. Can you guess what conflicts arise and how the story ends? There's a real groaner where the band The Police is mixed up in conversation with REAL police.
Footloose is an alright film. But let's face it, it really was popular because of its music and dance scenes, most notably the infamous dance scene with Bacon in that warehouse. Everything else about the film was rather forgettable.
Surprised by all the negativity. Footloose is a great movie. Looking forward to this...but as with the other classics coming out in the near future (Animal House, Blues Brothers, Fast Times), I think $25 is a bit too much to pay for a movie that's been available on home video for years, although I appreciate that they're providing so many extra new features on Footloose. I'll probably wait til it's in the $10 to $15 range, but I'll definitely pick it up at some point. Gotta love that Price Tracker!
F'ing finally! Say what you want about this film but I love it. I grew up with it so I guess it has a special place in my heart. Music is great can't wait to hear this in dts-hd. I will say that I highly doubt this will look amazing. Ive never seen a "clean" transfer of it. But hopefully I'm wrong! Day 1 no doubt.
I'm quite pleased to hear about the impending Blu-ray release, but a remake? Seriously? Whose brilliant idea was that? I didn't even know about it until reading this page.
The remake STARTED with the idea to film the popular 90's stage version, then got shelved, then revived when they were trying to 80's-nostalgia remake Fame, then revived when they were trying to come up with movies for Zac Efron, and....now it's "Whatever happened to that movie we were going to make?" rights expiration.
But yeah, we know: "Blu-ray originals are what remakes are for."
Nobody is saying that Footloose is the great work of art, but it is a fun movie, and a movie that takes me back to my childhood. I remember as a kid loving this soundtrack along with the soundtrack to Flashdance (another guilty pleasure I'd love to get on Blu). I am against remakes but I like that this is coming out, at least something good coming from that awful remake coming soon.
I remember being really down and just driving around in Joplin MO when I decided to see Footloose. As soon as the music started, I felt great!! That movie (at the time) really lifted me up, so it will always have a special place in my heart!! Day 1 purchase!!!!
That's a very interesting question. Was the original FOOTLOOSE given some TLC restoration?? Saw it only last week on TMC - sorry to say it didn't look too flash for a hi def release on HDTV. I sure hope it has because I'd like to add it to my Blu-Ray collection, too.
