Amazon's weekly Gold Box deal has the first four Alien films in their individual packaging for the discounted price of $12.49. This applies only to the films which are part of the Alien Quadrilogy with Sigourney Weaver as Ripley (Alien, Aliens, Alien³ and Alien: Resurrection) and excludes the Alien vs. Predator spin-offs.
The Alien Anthology set was recently featured in a Gold Box deal for $52.99, or roughly $13.25 a movie. This week's deal bests that by featuring each movie for $12.49, or 64% off the SRP list price. The offer expires on July 16th.
If I had known that these individual films would be discounted so soon, I wouldn't have purchased the box set (since I'm only a fan of the first two)...oh well - c'est la vie!
Honestly, would it kill Amazon to price these movies at $12.50? They know most people only want the first two, but non-Prime members will need to buy a third item to get free shipping. *sigh* Guess I'll be waiting for the inevitable $9.99 price.
@ AltaDef... use the amazon filler tool. it shows you the cheapest prices on amazon.com that allows you to add this cheap ass crap to your cart that are fullfilled by amazon. i know what you are saying. we need $0.02 to get free shipping. there are useless items for like $0.36 and that puts you over the $25 free shipping mark. thats what i just did ! heres the link...
@AltaDef I agree w/ you it's a sneaky move they often play, but when you think from a business point of view its a smart move on their part to generate more sales $$ ...and yes the first two are the only ones worth owning IMO.
Thanks for the info. I already own the Anthology, to be honest I never had any problems getting the disc in and out of the folders in the book but yes I could see where if there was dirt trapped in the folder it would scratch the disc up. I was just thinking about purchasing the first 3 movies separately just to be able to have quicker access to them but I think I will hold off for now. Thanks again for the info.
Altadef I think you need to find some friend, family member or college student who has Prime and ask them to add you on their Prime account. It costs them nothing but bequeathes to you tons of benefits. Anyone on this forum in my opinion who is serious about deals and doesnt have Prime permissions yet is just not TRYING hard enough to get killer deals especially the two day free shipping on nearly everything!!
The real bummer with these is that you don't get the expansive special features of the 2 bonus discs. I wish they could make each set a two disc set that also featured the special features of the anthology discs.
However, after watching the special features, I didn't feel like I had missed out on any cool tidbits or information that wasn't in the commentaries.
And Alien 3 is best forgotten. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it's one of the worst movies I've ever seen. In the top 5 for sure. I know it has it's defenders and it's annoying to constantly see these comments but I mean...god damn.
Finally bought the first two. I hated Alien 3 and 4 so I avoided the box set. I will gladly pick up and can't wait to watch the first two classics in high def
