Attendees at Comic Con 2011 were treated to a sneak peek of deleted scenes that will be featured on the upcoming Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray set.
The promotional clip released by Fox features snippets of never-before-seen deleted footage from the original trilogy. The studio has also set up a Star Wars Saga Blu-ray Booth at the convention to further promote the release.
Star Wars will make its Blu-ray debut on September 16th, 2011.
sweet! I know George Lucas has a little money in the bank so why not clean up the deleted scenes?...just saying I know his company is rather small...still day one for every human who owns a blu-ray player.
Very cool! Some of the scenes look a bit rough, but maybe they were beyond repair (or Lucas just thought it wasn't worth it).
Here's what I've been able to gather: 'Luke's Saber' scene from the beginning of Jedi which Lucas showed off a while back. Luke looking into the sky at space battles from A New Hope. Some shot of Akbar (or his cousin!) in a starfighter... then there's footage of the sandstorm (which I believe takes places after they blow up Jabba's Sail Barge in Jedi). Then it looks like R2-D2 having fun with Wampas from The Empire Strikes Back (Lucas wasn't lying, their ice creature didn't look that good back then!) Then there's some interesting footage which looks like Han & the rebels breaking into the bunker on Endor from Return of the Jedi. Followed by more sandstorm footage. I hope they saved some other scenes too, these look like a lot of fun to watch!
That scene w/ R2 is probably when the Wampas attacked the base and killed a Tauntaun. You can briefly see the dying/dead Tauntaun in the movie w/ blood smeared on the wall right before Han goes out to look for Luke.
0:27 - didn't know mobiles existed in the Star Wars universe - lol
Lucas will have to do better than that to get me to part with my cash and most fans who post here know what i am referring too! Proper OT release included or kiss my wallet!
He probably hasn't remastered the clips because he doesn't want to encourage fan edits re-inserting them and then everyone downloading extended versions he hasn't sanctioned or approved.
@Thank You, Agreed That ship sailed a long time ago with the original theatrical versions some fans need to just get over it. If you don't like it then don't buy it. Where talking about the Deleted Scenes not about the SE vs OOT. Give it a rest would you fans. Yes it would be nice to have the original theatrical versions on the blu-rays but it won't be on the box set at least right now.
lucas should include a disc called the (go F yourself bonus) where he literally shows you in DETAIL how he raped and ruined his own series of films...what a fn JOKE !! no thx man...no more money from me till you CLEAN up and release the ORIGINAL trilogy in all its UN CGI garbage
I don't care that these scenes weren't restored, and it just adds to their age....like a fine wine. It's official, Christmas 2011 just got moved up to September 16th!
Lucas doesn't release the theatrical versions, because his ex-wife is still (financially) attached to them.
The only way he can release them without her getting a piece of the action is to release them as bonus content for reasons of historic comparison like he did with the special edition DVDs a couple of years ago.
So if you are going to rag on someone for not getting the origiNAL then rag on her.
I hope there are unreleased deleted scens from Episodes I-III as well. I've been hoping to see that commando Jedi attack into a robot ship from AOTC ever since it was first announced and didn't end up in the final cut.
Am I the only one who really doesn't care that the original Star Wars was upgraded with improved CGI? The original trilogy is still great! The real discussion should be how George Lucas has ripped off the fans by releasing the prequel trilogy (the first movie was trash) and only the third movie was half way decent!
I hope the deleted scenes included in the old documentary/CD (more of Luke and Biggs and Han with a girl in the cantina) are also included. Still, pretty awesome stuff. I guess we are all drooling for this release already!
I took the day off so I can get the set and dive into as much as possible. Doesnt hurt its the day after my b-day too. This will be a day long remembered...
Amen Lucy! As to the haters, I will state the same thing I did to all the people they told me they are goig to boycott the NFL cancel their season tickets, Sunday ticket etc. They will be someone to replace the small group of haters. Get over the original trilogy. The out come and feeling has not changed.
Why would I want to see scenes that weren't good enough for the movie or didn't add to the story? I mean, they were cut for a reason. Sometimes less is more.
Guys...I too still want the original releases to come out.
They just aren't coming out yet.
We DO have them on special edition DVD though which I think adds to it.
I wouldn't really want the originals TOO clean.
The point is...just wait, because Lucas KNOWS the only way to make all of us buy the same thing twice will be to include the originals later on as special features and I'll bet you he only makes them available in the 6 movie set.
He'll be like "You can have them....for $79.99"
Honestly I think he does this just to make the world hate his ex. Kinda brilliant.
@Thank You - Wow, first post from you I have actually agreed with you on... Just can't believe people are still complaining about Lucas releasing the Theatrical Editions of the OT. I use to agree with these people but clearly Lucas has no intent on doing this so may as well get over it and stop crying about it.
I so can't wait for this Blu-ray set! I have waited 30 years for deleted scenes to be released in a Star Wars Boxed Set!
It's clearly obvious by now that there are two "camps" associated with the Blu-ray release of the Star Wars saga.
A. Those that were alive to see the OT in person at the theater.
B. Those that weren't born yet that watched it on VHS, DVD, or TV.
The 'A' camp would like to experience the OT in all it's theatrical glory on their HD HT on Blu-ray.
The 'B' camp feels the need to belittle those in the 'A' group that feel cheated by Lucasfilms for not allowing that to happen.
Fortunately, for myself, I'm a proud member of the 'A' camp that got to experience Star Wars nine times in 1977 before it was operated on like Dr. Frankenstein's monster.
Unfortunately, for 'B' campers, with today's technology, there's always a possibility that a movie that you care for could undergo the same treatment someday.
Respect those who deserve it. Accept those who differ from you.
I grew up with the original trilogy, but I'm not crying that they're never gonna get re-released that way in HD. Lucas clearly doesn't intend to, so meh~ Won't stop me from buying this set.

First there is no movie that compares to Star Wars so who cares if movies get edited or released with new footage, um they call them Director's Cuts and more normal people actually like them regardless of the version they saw in theaters.
Second, I got to see Star Wars in theaters in 1997 because I wasn't born till 1982, so um having said that you forgot to mention those of us who got to experience the magic of the Star Wars Directors Cut in theaters which to me makes the latter releases better.
Then there are you guys who are stuck in the past and while you will gladly prefer a directors cut of every movie ever made since Star Wars you stubbornly hold onto a narrow minded fantasy of a long distant childhood memory that you, sorry if this is a shock, will NEVER get to relive no matter how hard you try, beg, or cry.
Now I can be respectful of those who say they prefer the original release on the merits of the films but I have no respect for a piece of shit like you who has to talk down to me for preferring the version of the film I saw in theaters not to mention the version that creators of our beloved obsession prefers. Seams to me like we are the ones being respectful and you are the ones being, not all of you but the guys like this one, who are living in a fantasy world where somehow if you get to watch the movie in HD it will take you back in time.
The real two camps are
1 those with common sense who will be enjoying Star Wars in amazing 1080p
2 those who have no common sense and will be spitefully watching Star Wars in 480i letterbox instead.
I hate this debate it is pointless and it boils down to stubborn stupidity.
God honestly NONE of the changes made alter the movie that much anyways. You have some IMPROVED special effects shots that you all enjoyed in 1997 until some blogger sarcastically pointed out that Han Shot first and ever since then you threw reason and common sense out the window. I don't even care if my comment disappears or if it gets voted to the top the truth, yes the honest to god truth is GET OVER IT.
I just watched Little Fockers. In one scene, a child asks, "Can girls poop out of their vagina?"
Jack Byrnes replies, "Not since that accident in 1982."
I'm in Camp A. but I'll stick with the 1080P versions I've had for 3 years now. and Han shoots first..
Oh and speaking of crying over movies. Lucas cried to the United Congress over the colorization of movies.
"I am very concerned about our national heritage, and I am very concerned that the films that I watched when I was young and the films that I watched throughout my life are preserved, so that my children can see them."
@thank you...hmmm; seems that for every "A camper" there is a "B camper" with equally strong views, maybe we BOTH should stop "whining" and let Lucas do whatever he wants to do (____ on the OT from a great height)? Personally i care little about his personal circumstances; the fact is it can be done and SHOULD be done.
BTW; i have no problem with the deleted scene previews (they do look VERY interesting to an "A camper") or the blu-ray set as a whole, i am however rightfully voicing my disappointment and frankly disgust at the OT situation and stating that i will be boycotting this release (as i am sure many others will).
@phatrat1982; i do not fit into either 1 or 2 categories, i haven't watched Star Wars since before the prequels, i do however long to watch the OT in the same amazing quality.
**first deleted scene is where Luke can see the imperial fleet battle to blockade the planet? this was in the radio serialization??...very interesting
@ phatrat1982
We were friends long before this conversation.
@ repete66211
I hear ya. I've had it on preorder since day 1. I'm not happy about the OT situation, but I'll for damn sure be cranking, "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope" on release day.
I am very interested in seeing the Deleted,Extended,Alternate scenes that are on Discs 7 and 8.
These are reserved for those fans who enjoy THE COMPLETE SAGA:)
denger76 if starwars has inproved cgi awsome and as far as you dissing the prequels they were awesome i mean not making the prequels is like showing hald a superbown its just stupid my only sadness of the prequels was they didnt have much clone wars battles also i wanted to see alot more of poggle the lesser general grievius and wat tambor still the prequels are amazing as ep 4-6 they all have a special place in my heart RIP Separatist army you will be remembered
@Ray O. Blu I am from Camp A. The difference, people need to stop whining about EVERTIME there is Star Wars news or Lucas's name is mentioned. Get over it. Move on. Stop watching crap like South Park to fuel your Emo Angst. It gets tiring.
@ Lucy Diamond... I too would love some corroboration on the Marcia Lucas info. If true, it puts things entirely in a different light. I am kinda suspicious as I havent ever heard this and they got divorced in the early 80s.

That was an urban legend that has never been proved or disproved as far as I can tell. It would be a justifiable excuse in my opinion but there are likely those who disagree. But personally it doesn't matter to me either way even if I did want the originals or not my stance has always been it is his movie and his choice but some people have a hard time accepting that.
I am in the A camp… sort of… my parents took me to see Empire at the drive-in when I was very young, yet old enough to fall in love with Star Wars… and then by the time Jedi hit theaters, I was old enough to request multiple trips to the theater (and get them!) I have the old 1990 VHS tapes, the remasterd THX 1997 tapes, the trilogy box set and the individual releases with the OT “bonus films”… (and I bought the new prequel trilogy set as well for the eff of it)… But I have to honestly say, as excited as I was to hear this was coming to Blu… I will wait for a deal on Amazon. I don’t think I can fork over more than another $30 for these films again… as much as I love them, I just can’t. I know holding out for the OT on Blu is an act of futility, I just can’t shell out a lot again for the same now-botched versions of the films.
All that being said, those deleted scenes were effing mint!
