Quatermass and the Pit Blu-ray Detailed

Posted July 23, 2011 12:11 AM by Webmaster

OptimumIndependent British distributors Optimum Home Entertainment will release a Double Play Edition (combo pack) of Roy Ward Baker's Quatermass and the Pit a.k.a Five Million Years to Earth (1967), starring James Donald, Andrew Keir, Barbara Shelley, and Julian Glover. Street date is September 19th.

During excavations in London a large unidentified object is unearthed. It defies definition although the area has always been associated with diabolical evil. Within its walls Professor Quatermass (Keir) discovers the remains of intelligent alien creatures that attempted to conquer the Earth in prehistoric times and, through their experiments on early man, altered human evolution to its present state. Though dormant for many centuries, the excavations threaten to unleash the terrifying force of the aliens upon mankind once again...

Special Features:
  • New UK exclusive interviews with Julian Glover, Mark Gatiss, Judith Kerr, Kim Newman, Joe Dante and Marcus Hearne
  • Audio commentary with Nigel Kneale and Roy Ward Baker
  • World of Hammer - Sci-Fi Episode
  • UK and US trailers

I already have it on a two disc edition along with Quatermass 2 starring Brian Donlevy. The copy I have is damn good with very good detail, so I do not think I would be buying it even though it is one of my fav films.

Great film. The DVD is quite good, but BD would rule! How about a Quatermass set w/ all three films (and maybe a bonus of the original telecast).

I did not think the other Quatermass films were nearly as good and am quite happy to stick with this one as a good sample of those times.

This was one of the very last VHS tapes I ever purchased prior to DVD. I'll be curious to see how nice the transfer turns out... I've never seen it look particularly good.

One of the first movies I ever saw on VHS. My dad made me watch it when I think I was only 5 (maybe 6 or 7.... can't remember). I couldn't sleep for weeks after this. This is one purchase I will NOT miss.
