Details on Thor (Best Buy Exclusive Edition)

Posted August 22, 2011 04:59 PM by Matthew Smith

ParamountParamount and Marvel have detailed the Best Buy Exclusive edition of the 2011 blockbuster Thor, which is set to street on September 13th.

The Best Buy edition will come packaged as a Blu-ray/DVD/digital copy combo pack with alternate red-hued cover art. The back of the package will feature an image from the comic book "Journey into Mystery" #83, which introduced the character to readers back in 1962. The vintage cover was drawn by legendary Marvel artists Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnot.

As an added bonus, pre-orders made on Bestbuy.com will come with a one-month subscription to Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited (a $9.99 value). The retailer is currently taking pre-orders for Thor at the price of $29.99.

Pass. If I'm going to spend $30 for Thor I'll import the Steelbook.

It's a good movie (not great) as well as a refreshing tale on superhero movies (I think because of the mythology a la Hellboy), but $30 for it is too much, the price needs to be lower.

$30 is too pricey. I was hoping Target would do their own exclusive, something along the lines of the Iron Man 2 iron pack. But so far, Ive heard nothing.

I'll stick with my Amazon order, which I expect will end up no more than $20.

I don't usually go for these special versions with the swag, but I would love to own the book that introduced Thor to the world, so I might bend my usual rule here.

I don't think it actually comes with a reprint, just uses the coverart.

I don't get the all red cover. What does the color red have to do with Thor? It just seems like an odd choice.

That comic book cover just serves to remind me that the movie Thor looks nothing like Thor.

@STD
Huh? A tall chiselled guy with long blonde hair, a red cape, a winged helmet early on, a hammer, and round plates on his chest. How does that not look like Thor? I don't follow. I thought the casting and costume were perfect.

I need a better exclusive than that to be interested. That cover doesn't even look good, IMO.

Looking elsewhere...

For those not informed, the cover is actually the final theatrical one sheet that was printed for display in theaters. I for one am a fan of the simplicity and I'll definitely be grabbing this from Best Buy day one!

I'm sure this will end up much cheaper than $29.99. If not, Amazon will get my money.

Seeing as how the Blu/DVD/Digital package isn't exclusive, just the packaging, why pay more money for it? I prefer the regular combo cover anyway.

I've got a Best Buy gift card, and since I want to have all of the main Marvel/Avengers Universe movies, I might as well spring for this version.

Best Buy has it on sale this week for 22.99, same as X-Men: First Class.
