Michael Bay: Microsoft is the Real Problem

Posted December 4, 2007 02:16 PM by Josh Dreuth

Michael Bay Outspoken director Michael Bay has once again posted a note on his website in regards to the format war, this time calling out Microsoft. He pointed out, similar to what many insiders have been saying for a while, that Microsoft was only trying to destroy both formats in order to usher in digital downloads. Mr. Bay called Blu-ray the "superior" format and hinted that Microsoft was behind the now infamous Paramount payoff.

Below is the full post:
What you don't understand is corporate politics. Microsoft wants both formats to fail so they can be heroes and make the world move to digital downloads. That is the dirty secret no one is talking about. That is why Microsoft is handing out $100 million dollar checks to studios just embrace the HD DVD and not the leading, and superior Blu Ray. They want confusion in the market until they perfect the digital downloads. Time will tell and you will see the truth.

This was obvious, Microsoft has a tendency to stick their hands in EVERYTHING and f*ck it up for EVERYONE!! Ex. Vista They want to be the "hero's" in all of this by starting the digital download movie era instead of Blu-ray/HD-DVD era?? HA! Basterds....

Major kudos to Bay for having the courage to speak up!! It's a shame he is locked with Paramount/HD DVD for the time being

I just hope he is not going to "revise" this statement in... 12 hours from now?

Yet, it's good to hear another director (again!) favoring the only TRUE HD format!

Glad I'm a mac user.

Took me a while but moving to a Microsoft free life was worth the effort.

Microsoft playing dirt again they remind me of Intel. That why I don't support Intel what they did to AMD. Intel support HD-DVD.

Glad to know that he is still with us on the Blu side.

I just hope he can get his films (especially Transformers) on Blu-ray next year.

Paramount made a big mistake by taking a payoff and even their directors are complaining about it,
let alone the MILLIONS of Blu-ray owners who can not buy their movies now.

BTW.. APPLE FTW!

I'm glad that he brought this subject up. I have seriously been saying this for a long time. I don't believe that digital download will ultimately save the day. I personally enjoy having a hard copy of my movie. What will be the solution for situations where there is a hdd failure or something similar to that? Will the person automatically get the movie again? What about piracy? There are too many issues with digital downloads and Microsoft of all companies should not be the one to lead it.

Glad to hear that Michael Bay continues to speak his mind even when met with strong opposition from studio execs. I like this guy more with every post he makes on his site.

I don't want downloads, I want my films on a nice shiny disc (preferably of the Blu variety). What happens when you get bored of your download? If you have a disc you can sell it on to somebody else, you'd have a job doing that with a download. Try giving a download as a gift to someone for Christmas. And who the hell wants to spend all that time downloading 50gb of film only to find you're 1mb short of space. M$ should be destroyed not only for this, but also for the garbage 360 (it's good for games but you know it's going to die because it's so badly manufactured) and also for basically forcing 99% of the population to have windows. It's cack and has always been cack. Give me Workbench for the Amiga anyday :-)

The fact is, the digital downloads are not ready. The files are often compressed to around 1GB, only
display in 720i, have major compression issues and other artifacts, lack surround sound and lossless
audio, etc...

It is not going to happen. Digital Downloads will remain a niche product fora few computer geeks and
students.

Unfortunately it ALL about money in this country. Of course Microsoft is trying to take it all in and not admit that Blu Ray is the superior format. Im happy to see that someone in the entertainment industry is standing up for Blu Ray. I will always back Blu ray. Hd dvd is and was a waste of time and money. Blu is the best feature for the future.

I'm all set with downloading movies think you. I like going into a store and buying my movies think you.Plus once you buy the movie you dont need to purchase it again. It's been paid for and you can watch them any time you want. With downloading each time you want to watch a certain movie you will have to pay for it-Is that correct?
