Those of you who are picking up 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End' today
on Blu-ray may notice that something isn't quite right on the specifications. If
you look at the video encode for the main feature, the packaging says it is
presented in 1080i. You shouldn't worry, though, as this is simply a misprint -
the title is encoded at full 1080p24.
This isn't the first snafu that the Pirates movies have seen. The Blu-ray release of
'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl' had a framing problem for
a small number of scenes which caused some interesting problems. An exchange
program is currently being constructed so that current owners of the title can get
the fixed release.
We still love you Disney.
More Pixar's and classics please.
Ratatouille and Cars are 2 literally shining examples of epic blu-ray movie making.
All of the other movies you've released have been exquisite too.
Yeah I noticed the misprint on the package when i bought the movie. Oh Well type-O's do happen once in a while and not really a big deal since we do all know that it puts out in 1080p24.
Thanos417 - As soon as I hear that the program is started, I will be sure to make a post so that
everyone can connect to customer service and get their exchange.
I just brought the new pirates blu-ray home and put it in my ps3 and it is not working. Everything is fine through all of the previews and then the screen goes blank. I even let it sit for 5min so it could "load" but still nothing. Anyone else have any problems?

Really? Which scenes? Are the current copies for sale corrected?
1984U: Betcha you need to download from Sony a firmware update. That took care of the unviewability factor when I got MY copy of Pirates 3. And it looks sooooooooooooooooo good! Savvy?
Mistakes happen, look at Paramount with their huge blunder for "The Jack Ryan Collection". They still haven't even re-dated that pack again. HD-DVD the look of not so many movies to choose from.
I also had a problem with my PS3 freezing after the previews. Had to restart and hit menu button
during previews to get to main menu and then was able to watch movie.
lupin: Superbad ALSO comes in one of the "shitty Warner/Fox non-lockable" cases too. They use
these cases for the 2-disc versions of their movies apparently.
come on do we really need an exchange program.......do we realy need to change that i to a p...on that piece of paper.........how would it affect the movie?.....if it was palyin at 1080i then i would be pissed...PISSED OUT OF MY $#@..(from southpark..lol)..its not necessary...jus correct it on the others thata re currently printing
I have Pirates 3 on Blu and the 60g PS3 with the latest firmware and I had no issues with the movie; I watched it from beginning to end and check all the bonus features on both discs and I confirmed that the display was in 1080p for the movie and 1080i for the bonus content. Awesome movie and Disney did a fantastic job with the Blu disc. Right now, I believe Disney is putting the most effort into delivering an exception product for Blu-Ray furthermore offering Blu exclusive content over the DVD release. I can't wait for their classics to be released and I hope Warner did a good job with the 5 Harry Potters coming out next week. It's an expensive time to be a Blu supporter and that's what makes it even sweeter!
Somebody needs to contact Disney and Sony to this error can be issued and possible firmware update to fix this BIG Problem. ARGHHHH. My PS3 won't play it at all after the previews here what gives!!!!!
I have a Samsung BD1200 and I am having issues loading the new movie. I get to the menu and when I click play movie, the menu freezes and reloads with no menu options. I have the current firmware updates from Samsung. Is anyone else having this issue, does anyone have a solution or is it just the disk and should I return it. Please help
I also have a Samsung BD-P1200 with the current firmware. I tried 3 separate copies of Pirates and couldn't get past the talking skull. All he did was mock me for not starting the movie! The previews all played fine (of course) but when I tried to play the actual movie, nothing happened. There's definitely an issue with this release.
Guess the PS3 isn't the only one thats having playback issues then. I contacted sony about this and what they told me is try doing "Restore Default Settings" and it played the movie until I put back the system settings back to where i had them before. I'm still not convinced that this would fix the problem but still there's a BIG ISSUE with this release.
I just got off the phone with Samsung tech support. They are aware of the issue with Pirates 3 not playing on the BD-P1200 and are working on a new firmware update to correct the problem. The new firmware should be out in about a week. They also told me that the new Die Hard won't currently play in the BD-P1200 either. I hope this helps those of you with this player and I'll follow up on this after I've applied the update and once again tried playing Pirates 3. I suggested to Samsung that they post this info on their website if they are aware that there's a problem to maybe save some aggravation (and multiple trips back to the DVD store) for their customers.
I think they should package these movies with a warning that the consumer may need additional programs in order to view the movies. I too, have had trouble viewing movies like Pirates. I am still waiting for a Update Disc, that is apparently required! However, when a consumer wants to purchase the movie, my money is collected at the time of service! Meanwhile, I am sitting at home with the movie that just plays trailers for upcoming movies, WHERES MY MONEYS WORTH???! More information is needed and SHOULD BE PROVIDED TO THE CONSUMERS!!!!!!
Has anyone heard any news on the firmware upgrade for the BD-P1200. I looked online today and it looks like there is an update but when I tried it still no good. Any news?
Last Saturday (12/8) they said it would be about a week. The update currently listed on their website is still the last one that they issued, not the new one that will fix Pirates 3. I've been checking every few days so hopefully it won't be much longer.
