CEATEC: Toshiba Announce Blu-ray DBR-M190 with 5TB of Storage

ToshibaToshiba have announced a Blu-ray recorder with 5TB of hard drive storage for OTA HD recording functionality. It also includes 3D Blu-ray playback and the standard fair HD audio decoding and bitstream capability. The system can also act as a home server making recorded shows available over a network.



Toshiba claim the 5TB hard drive space will give the server the ability to record up to 90 days worth of low to medium quality footage, or as they put it, six channels for 15 days. Other details were scant, but Toshiba say the player will be available in Japan towards the end of this year for 200,000 which is around $2,500. Toshiba has not stated any intention of releasing the home server and Blu-ray 3D player outside of Japan.

They never release disc recorders in the USA, only Japan. Must be some agreement with Hollywood.
