Blu-ray.com and DTS, Inc., a leader in high-definition
audio technology, are offering five Blu-ray.com members the opportunity to win a Blu-ray
copy of Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy. Founded in 1993, DTS
introduced its master-quality sound with the release of Steven Spielberg's blockbuster
Jurassic Park. Steven Spielberg helped launch DTS, believing state-of-the-art
theatrical sound mattered, and DTS is celebrating its heritage by co-hosting this
giveaway. Today every major film studio in the U.S. uses DTS multi-channel digital
sound, and virtually all major Hollywood feature films are released with soundtracks in
the DTS format. We reviewed this Blu-ray last week and awarded the audio five out of
five stars. All three films have been granted lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 mixes.
To enter the giveaway, simply add a comment to this news post stating which Jurassic
Park scene you believe incorporates the best sound effects. (There are no right or
wrong answers). After you've entered, we encourage you to swing by the DTS Facebook page to extend your
conversations with peers.
The contest is open to all Blu-ray.com members (membership is completely free, click here to join). Entrants will never be
asked or required to post any personal information whatsoever on Blu-ray.com, and will
only ever be identified by their Blu-ray.com username. Winners will be asked to provide
their full name and a valid mailing address via PM, but personal information will not be
shared or retained in any way. Maintaining our membership's privacy is of the utmost
importance. The contest will close on October 25 at approximately 11:59 pm EDT, and
five randomly selected winners will be contacted soon thereafter via Blu-ray.com PM.
Winners must respond to their winning notification PM within 48 hours or their prize
will be awarded to another randomly selected member.
i think the scene that incorporates the best sound effects is the opening of the first movie. Because thats all it is. Aside from a glimpse of a Raptor eye, you don't see what is in the crates. It's all played with sound effects.
All of the exterior scenes during the rain storm. The PURE surround track that DTS delivered was simply jaw-dropping!!!
The absolute emersion that it created was unequaled at the time, and DTS still sets the home-theater standard!
The Raptors trying to get into the kitchen is amazing. The noise they make when they breath hard against the glass is incredibly eerie and the whole scene relies on sound to sell the intensity. For example, the startling effect of the pots falling to the floor and the creepy tapping of its 6 inch claw. LOVE IT!
As great as the "foot stomp" is, I have to go with the trailer/cliff sequence in Lost World. Although this is probably the weakest of the three films, it's still technically sound. (Pun intended.)
Without a doubt the scene where the T-Rex attacks the kids in the Jeep. That's just screaming - pun intended - for some sweet, sweet audio in lossless 5.1 or higher
When the T-rex starts snapping the wires on the electric fence in the first movie.Becasuse you can so clearly hear the snapping and falling of the fence
T-Rex foot stomps as he approaches the trial run of the touring Ford Explorers! And... and a close 2nd... the sound of the sneaky no good lawyer getting chomped! lol!
I have to agree with most. When the T-Rex is first stomping and approaching the car. The sounds pique your imagination more than any visual could. It's awesome!
As much as I love the T-Rex Footsteps, I absolutely love the finale in JP with the raptors and the T-Rex clashing in the lobby... from the sound design to the music, it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand every time and I cannot wait to relive that moment in HD DTS.
I remember the scene in the rain where the chubby dude (whatshisname) is getting followed/attacked by the little dinosaur that spits goo in his face. The sound that thing makes, like maracas, was wonderfully creepy
This isn't the most exciting scene but in The Lost World when INGEN first arrives on the island and all the vehicles are hunting down the dinosaurs and the motorcycles are riding below the big dinosaurs is a great surround sound sequence.
If I have to say "Foot stomps" to enter, so be it--
But couldn't we have come up with a thread topic with more than one answer?....Favorite dino movie, maybe?
(It may be obvious, but it's more diverse!)
Easy. Dilophosaur eating Wayne Knight in the jeep. Perfect use of real animal sounds and effects. Ah, ah, ah! You didn't say the magic word! Ah, ah, ah...
The T-Rex stomps due indeed spark your imagination but that creature roar was awesome because we had no idea what sound would come from this creature until it almost blows out your eardrums! Awesome sound!
I love the sound during Dilophosaurus scene. The surrounds are really active while it's chirping innocently, but when it get's vicious, i love it's nasty sounding scream @ Nedry!
T-Rex is an obvious answer, but I love the scene where they are running through the field and there is a stampede of dinosaurs running through and past them
The vibrations given off as the T-rex approached the jeep. The echoing sound that lead you to believe that something bad was about to happen. It was very Jaw's like.
