Restless Blu-ray (Updated)

Posted November 14, 2011 08:04 AM by Webmaster

Sony PicturesIn an early announcement to retailers, Sony Pictures has revealed that it will release on Blu-ray acclaimed director Gus Van Sant's Restless (2011), starring Mia Wasikowska, Henry Hopper, and Ryo Kase. The film was screened in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

Annabel Cotton (Wasikowska) is a beautiful and charming terminal cancer patient with a deep felt love of life and natural world. Enoch Brae (Hopper) is a young man who has dropped out of the business of living, after an accident claimed the life of his parents. When these two outsiders chance to meet at a funeral, they find an unexpected common ground in their unique experiences of the world.

Update: Sony's Blu-ray presents the film in its 1.85:1 original aspect ratio with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. The disc has a number of bonus features, such as:
  • Gus Van Sant's Silent Version of Restless
  • Enoch & Annabel: One Love featurette
  • Enoch & Hiroshi: The Best of Friends featurette
  • Gus Van Sant: Independent Voice featurette
  • Being Restless featurette
  • Coming to Life: This is Restless featurette
  • Deleted Scenes
Street date is January 24th, 2012.

I love Gus Van Sant. Love him. This movie however, is the worst I've seen all year. I couldn't believe it was his. I hate to be negative, but this movie has NOTHING going for it....although I'd love to hear someone disagree.

I love Gus Van Sant as well and this looked really interesting but I've heard bad things as well.

I swear I saw a different movie than most critics... I LOVED this. A perfect blend of melancholy, romance, whimsy, and grit. On par with Van Sant's best--Private Idaho, Gerry, Milk. Mia Wasikowska is stellar (as she was in The Kids Are All Right and Jane Eyre, very promising actress).

Day 1 purchase.

I haven't heard anything about this movie, but Van Sant as always been hit or miss for me. I still think Drugstore Cowboy is his best movie.

Of course the movie centers on a teenage boy. Van Sant is such a perv.

Big Van Sant fan but heard pretty mediocre things about this one.

Ooh, cool bonus feature: the silent version of the film. I remember Wasikowska describing in an interview how, after doing scenes a few times with dialogue, Van Sant would do one more take and have the cast act out the beats silently, conveying everything through gestures and facial expressions.

Should be fascinating to watch.

this is a better film than given credit for, wouldn't recommend a blind buy but totally worth a viewing as a rental.
