In an early announcement to retailers, Sony Pictures has revealed that it will release on Blu-ray acclaimed director Gus Van Sant's Restless (2011), starring Mia Wasikowska, Henry Hopper, and Ryo Kase. The film was screened in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
Annabel Cotton (Wasikowska) is a beautiful and charming terminal cancer patient with a deep felt love of life and natural world. Enoch Brae (Hopper) is a young man who has dropped out of the business of living, after an accident claimed the life of his parents. When these two outsiders chance to meet at a funeral, they find an unexpected common ground in their unique experiences of the world.
Update: Sony's Blu-ray presents the film in its 1.85:1 original aspect ratio with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. The disc has a number of bonus features, such as:
I love Gus Van Sant. Love him. This movie however, is the worst I've seen all year. I couldn't believe it was his. I hate to be negative, but this movie has NOTHING going for it....although I'd love to hear someone disagree.
I swear I saw a different movie than most critics... I LOVED this. A perfect blend of melancholy, romance, whimsy, and grit. On par with Van Sant's best--Private Idaho, Gerry, Milk. Mia Wasikowska is stellar (as she was in The Kids Are All Right and Jane Eyre, very promising actress).
Ooh, cool bonus feature: the silent version of the film. I remember Wasikowska describing in an interview how, after doing scenes a few times with dialogue, Van Sant would do one more take and have the cast act out the beats silently, conveying everything through gestures and facial expressions.
