Super 8 "Hide and Tweet" Contest

Posted November 15, 2011 01:38 PM by Josh Katz

ParamountIn anticipation of Super 8's Blu-ray release, Paramount Home Entertainment has started a special "Hide and Tweet" contest. Using the film's Twitter account and Super8Tweet.com, fans can locate advance copies of the film as well as special mystery prizes.

From Paramount's official press release:

"[Paramount] will hide Blu-ray/DVD Combo Packs signed by J.J. Abrams in 20 cities across the U.S. and begin offering clues to the locations today via the film's @Super8Movie Twitter account and Super8Tweet.com. Each day, the clues will get more specific until all of the prizes are found. Consumers who find the Blu-ray/DVD Combo Packs will not only receive a copy of the film autographed by the director, but will have a chance to win additional prizes, including tickets to the premiere of Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, a collection of Abrams' films on Blu-ray, additional signed merchandise, and more...Fans can use the Super8Tweet.com microsite to piece together tweeted clues about where to find a copy of the film autographed by the director and additional mystery prizes."

Super 8 streets on November 22nd.

This is a very cool idea and a great way to get word-of-mouth promotion going - wish I lived in one of these 10 American cities!

Don't feel too bad; we're the fourth largest city in the US (Houston) and we still get stuck with Dallas -- what a crime!

Ended up being a waste of time for me, gave us a few clues and I knew exactly what area to go to, then at 11am when the contest starts it tells us to go 2 miles away to a completely different part of city. As I watched people get in their cars and drive away, and considering I was on foot, it seemed pointless to make the trek.

I got the AZ Copy signed by Abrams. The original clue was for a place 1/2 a mile from a railroad park. I chose to go to the park due to the fact that there was a train in the movie. My gamble paid off. We ended up winning. Great prize, Awful way to hold a contest. Employees at the Park knew nothing of the the movie, or the contest.

I ended up getting the copy in Philadelphia but damn the clues had me all over. I had to go to a coffee shop near Suburban Station. Unfortunately there are like 15 of those around there. Can't complain though got the signed copy.
