Real Steel Blu-ray

Posted December 2, 2011 01:51 PM by Josh Katz

Walt Disney StudiosDisney and Dreamworks Home Entertainment will bring Real Steel to Blu-ray next January. This sci-fi adventure takes place in the near future, where sophisticated fighting robots have replaced humans in boxing events. Hugh Jackman (The Prestige) stars as Charlie Kenton, a former promoter who partners with a training robot dubbed "Atom" in an attempt to regain his lost stature and connect with his young son (Dakota Goyo, Thor).

Disney presents the film in its original aspect ratio of 2.39:1 with a 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. Real Steel will arrive in two HD options - a two-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo pack and a three-disc Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy version. Both packages will contain the following bonus materials:
  • Four featurettes:
  • - Countdown to the Fight: The Charlie Kenton Story
    - Sugar Ray Leonard: Cornerman's Champ
    - Making of Metal Valley
    - Building the Bots
  • Deleted and extended scenes with introductions by director Shawn Levy:
  • - Extended "Meet Ambush"
    - Deleted "Butterfly" Storyline
  • Bloopers
Real Steel streets on January 24th, 2012.

Well months ago the 'digital copy' version had a $5 coupon you could clip, so I did. I bet the price on it will drop to $25 which means I'll pay $20 or so. Anytime Disney has released a 3D movie they do something similar and I get the 3D version (though I don't even like 3D), for less than 2D.

This is a fun movie with a surprisingly touching father-son story. Watching the Jackman character turn away from being an uncaring deadbeat is cool

Why not 7.1 DTS-HD MA? This movie sounded totally awesome in the theater. I was really hoping for them to go all out:(

TheHDRoom says it's going to be 7.1. Maybe it's just a typo here

It will be 7.1. It received a Dolby Surround 7.1 mix and Disney has kept all their 7.1 movies in 7.1 (unlike Fox).

Yup - glad to hear (or Read, actually), that this will be in 7.1 (DTS-HD MA) since I missed it theaters.

"There will be two Blu-ray configurations of Real Steel, both of which will include the Blu-ray and DVD editions of the film. The difference is one set will also include a third disc with a digital copy, while the other will not. --- Real Steel on Blu-ray will be presented in 1080p video and 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio."

@pinewoodpotter: when amazon first put up the pre order for this the 3 disc version had a $5 off coupon, right now my order for the 3 disc version is cheaper than the 2 disc version

This movie was surprisingly very good. I figured it would be a forgettable 2 hours, but It really surprised me, enough to probably put it in my top 15 movies this year. I'll be getting this for sure

BD+DVD+Digi copy and BD+DVD, who come up with dumb ideas like this?
I wish the other offering would be a BD only or a BD + Digi Copy
