Panasonic Unveils New Thinner Blu-ray Drive

Posted December 27, 2007 11:42 AM by Josh Dreuth

TDK Panasonic is set to unveil a new Blu-ray drive at CES that will be the thinnest laptop Blu-ray drive yet. Panasonic's previous laptop Blu-ray drive was 12.7mm thick. This new drive, which has the ability to read and write Blu-ray discs at 2X, as well as read and write DVDs and CDs, is only 9.5mm thick. No additional information was revealed at this time, but we'll have all the juicy specs live from CES in just a couple of weeks.

I can't wait to see new players and PC drives from all the BD CE companies! Also hopefully Warner will announce that they are going to go BD exclusive.

Sounds good! Is this the type of drive found in the iMac or does this new Panasonic drive have an ejectable tray?

Guys, when is the CES date? I have a feeling lots of Blu-ray equipment will be released.

still gonna cost an arm and a leg to get one even moreso now bc its a burner AND smaller. im gonna wait till they're affordable to regular people.

That's why companies buy them in bulk and install them in their computers. They get discounts.

CptGreedle, I think intime Blu-Ray drives will be in iMacs because Apple is one of the 170 companies endorsing Blu-Ray
