Sony Pictures Entertainment has released the official teaser trailer for Men in Black III. Long delayed due to script concerns, this installment in the successful science-fiction-comedy franchise finds MIB Agent J (Will Smith, Men in Black) traveling back to 1969 in order to investigate a bizarre interplanetary case.
Academy Award-winner Tommy Lee Lones (The Fugitive) returns as J's partner K, and Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) joins the Men in Black series as K's younger self, who aids Agent J in 1969.
I'm glad to see Smith acting again. A 4 year break is too long to go without a fresh fix of his brand of action/comedy. Great to see Tommy Lee Jones returning to the role too.
I want to see Will Smith jump WITHOUT the gadget.
(And nice to see that Jones was able to cameo in it anyway, seeing as Sony only came up with the "younger K" storyline as an excuse for Jones to pass on it.)
They may issue a 3-Disc Blu-Ray set including the "missing" Men in Black II once Men in Black III reaches Blu-Ray. I haven't caught up with Men in Black so I just might hold off until we see how this plays out.
@Old - I think the IDEA is to go for a retro 60's-Space look, when even the "real" aliens looked like the Jetsons. (Rather like the opening of the MIB Ride at Universal Studios.)
Still, whenever they go back to "origins" to tie it full-circle, that's usually the license for the director to wrap up the series. Let's hope so; outside of that Robin Williams thingy, Sonnenfeld hasn't directed anything off of TV since MIB2, and....that's a bit worrisome, in a Robert Zemeckis sort of way.
Waaaaay back in 2002, when MIIB came out, friends and I went to see it on opening weekend and we made a bet: most of them said Ghostbusters 3 had more chance to get done before MIB3... I was right... I should have bet a grand on that... The trailer looked nice, but seriously, now let's just take it out of the way and bring about the return of the Ghostbusters before they all choke and die, all right Sony??? Are you listening? Crack a deal with Murray to do any film he wants like you did with Razor's Edge back in 1984... figure something out for crying out loud.
Been thinking: if MIB 2 hasn't hit Blu-Ray and Sony waits until MIB 3 is out, does that mean a GB 2 Blu-Ray with REAL special features will hit stands right at the same time Ghostbusters 3 hits theaters? (when I say "Ghostbusters 3" and "theaters" in the same sentence, one should read the dictionnary's definition of sarcasm).
I also had this idea about what MIB 3 will be about: a young guy goes back through time to rescue his "old" friend who's been killed in another timeline, creating an alternate 2012. Different for me, you and Einst... err I mean J... wow, I almost thought I was telling the story to Back to the Future 2 and 3 here... HA.
