Official Teaser Trailer for Men in Black 3

Posted December 12, 2011 09:22 AM by Josh Katz

Sony PicturesSony Pictures Entertainment has released the official teaser trailer for Men in Black III. Long delayed due to script concerns, this installment in the successful science-fiction-comedy franchise finds MIB Agent J (Will Smith, Men in Black) traveling back to 1969 in order to investigate a bizarre interplanetary case.

Academy Award-winner Tommy Lee Lones (The Fugitive) returns as J's partner K, and Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) joins the Men in Black series as K's younger self, who aids Agent J in 1969.

Director Barry Sonnenfeld (Get Shorty) helms this entry, and the film also stars Rip Torn (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story), Alice Eve (She's Out of My League), Bill Hader (Superbad), Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man), Jemaine Clement (Dinner for Schmucks), and Emma Thompson (Love Actually).

Men in Black 3's U.S. release date is scheduled for May 25th, 2012.

I'm glad to see Smith acting again. A 4 year break is too long to go without a fresh fix of his brand of action/comedy. Great to see Tommy Lee Jones returning to the role too.

Definitely looks good. I hope the time travel part still offers great tech usage.

Josh Brolin looks like he can do a pretty good job as a young Tommy Lee. This trailer has me interested now.

Great stuff! I really hope MIB 2 finds his way pretty soon on Blu-ray, and also Bad Boys 2 like you've said.

I haven't watched my MIB blu-ray yet, and I can't wait to do so before the screening of the third one!

I want to see Will Smith jump WITHOUT the gadget.
(And nice to see that Jones was able to cameo in it anyway, seeing as Sony only came up with the "younger K" storyline as an excuse for Jones to pass on it.)

Hopefully they will release Men in Black 2 on Blu Ray when Men in Black 3 is released to theaters or when Men in Black 3 is released on Blu Ray .

They may issue a 3-Disc Blu-Ray set including the "missing" Men in Black II once Men in Black III reaches Blu-Ray. I haven't caught up with Men in Black so I just might hold off until we see how this plays out.

The short snippet of Brolin as the young K sold it for me... in just a few short seconds, he perfectly captured Jones' K.

Btw, anyone else catch that the aliens in the past look like they belong on Star Trek the original series? :-p

@Old - I think the IDEA is to go for a retro 60's-Space look, when even the "real" aliens looked like the Jetsons. (Rather like the opening of the MIB Ride at Universal Studios.)

Still, whenever they go back to "origins" to tie it full-circle, that's usually the license for the director to wrap up the series. Let's hope so; outside of that Robin Williams thingy, Sonnenfeld hasn't directed anything off of TV since MIB2, and....that's a bit worrisome, in a Robert Zemeckis sort of way.

Waaaaay back in 2002, when MIIB came out, friends and I went to see it on opening weekend and we made a bet: most of them said Ghostbusters 3 had more chance to get done before MIB3... I was right... I should have bet a grand on that... The trailer looked nice, but seriously, now let's just take it out of the way and bring about the return of the Ghostbusters before they all choke and die, all right Sony??? Are you listening? Crack a deal with Murray to do any film he wants like you did with Razor's Edge back in 1984... figure something out for crying out loud.

So that is why MIB2 has not hit BD yet. ok then. MIB3 looks cool.

Simonbergeron
 - Dec 13, 2011

Been thinking: if MIB 2 hasn't hit Blu-Ray and Sony waits until MIB 3 is out, does that mean a GB 2 Blu-Ray with REAL special features will hit stands right at the same time Ghostbusters 3 hits theaters? (when I say "Ghostbusters 3" and "theaters" in the same sentence, one should read the dictionnary's definition of sarcasm).

Simonbergeron

I also had this idea about what MIB 3 will be about: a young guy goes back through time to rescue his "old" friend who's been killed in another timeline, creating an alternate 2012. Different for me, you and Einst... err I mean J... wow, I almost thought I was telling the story to Back to the Future 2 and 3 here... HA.
