Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Saawariya' to Blu-ray on March 11th, day-and-date with the DVD release. It will be presented in 2.40 1080p and in its original Hindi soundtrack. The only extra announced for the release so far is a "Making of the Music" TV special.
In the tradition of international co-productions like "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon", this film is the highly anticipated first release by Sony Pictures of the traditional and widely popular Indian "Bollywood" genre. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's epic romance "Saawariya" (Beloved) is a tender and romantic musical which centres around the chance encounter of two people Raj and Sakina and their obsession with each other over four successive nights. "Saawariya" is a contemporary story about the immortal emotion - love, with the unmistakable imprint of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film will have unprecendented wide releases in major countries outside of India.
Yep, good news, as I think this was the first movies produced by Sony India.
This is what I was waiting for. Really good cinematography in the movie. Not sure about the movie it slef.
This is good news.I will get this for sure just to see how it looks on Blu and with the joint production with Yash Raj Films and Walt Disney on there coming title early next year it will certainly be good for Bollywood.
This is great news, I suppose it wouldn't be a surprise because of Sony's involvement, but I hadn't heard about the Yash Raj venture. What film is that?
Anyway, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's previous efforts such as Black and Devdas were visually wonderful and I hope that this one falls in suit.
With Hong Kong Cienma, Anime and now Bollywood coming to Blu, I am a very happy guy!
The Yash RaJ and Disney venture is a movie called Roadside Romeo from what I can see from the promo it looks like a animation mix with live action.Check out Yashrajfilms.com for the preview.
I must say i am very surprise of the names of some of the indian films named here.i tought that just a few of the member here would know about Bollywood, but from what i am seeing its much more than i tought.
dis movie was crap according to me although it was distributed by sony pictures the first bolly movie ever 2 do so it failed to live up to my expectations by judging the directors old work
hope some good bolly movies can make it to blu-rayin the near future
Blu-ray / High Def medium is good to show visuals at its best with best audio quality. And I think this movie is a good candidate for best visuals and very good audio track. Storyline and script is different thing as there are very few bollywood films that would stand out in terms of story, direction and script (same as hollywood). But hats off to Sony for being commited to bluray medium and expanding range of films that they are brining out on bluray. Hope they do good job with bluray conversion of this movie.
