Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has revealed plans to bring Take Shelter to Blu-ray next year. The sophomore feature from director Jeff Nichols (Shotgun Stories), this psychological drama stars Academy Award-nominee Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) as Curtis LaForche, a loving husband and father unsure if the terrifying visions he is experiencing are harbingers of an impending apocalyptic event or are merely symptomatic of mental illness.
As Curtis struggles with his sanity, his attempts to stave off disaster put a strain not only on his relationships with his wife (Jessica Chastain, The Tree of Life) and best friend (Shea Whigham, The Lincoln Lawyer) but also on his connection to his small hometown.
Initially slated for a DVD-only release, Take Shelter now has a Blu-ray release listing on Sony's official publicity website. Other than the release date, no further technical details are available for the disc.
Update: Sony has confirmed the following bonus features:
Commentary with Jeff Nichols and Michael Shannon
Behind the Scenes of Take Shelter featurette
Q&A with Michael Shannon and Shea Whigham
Deleted scenes
Take Shelter is expected to street on February 14th, 2012.
I was afraid this wasn't getting a HD release. They've had the DVD listed on AMZ for a while and the BR has a 'sign up to be notified' offer. Good News
Didn't realize Sony might have passed on a blu-ray for this (seriously Sony?, hope that's not really true), been waiting for an announcement to pop up any day for a while now. Will be checking it out for sure. (Not likely, but hopefully this will get a friendly release date price like Midnight In Paris just did.)
