In March, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release Monty Python and the Holy Grail on Blu-ray. This classic comedy filters King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table's epic search for the Holy Grail through the absurdist sensibilities of the Monty Python's Flying Circus troupe.
Far from a traditional hero's journey, the quest - as depicted in the film - shows Arthur (Graham Chapman, Monty Python's Life of Brian) beset at all turns by dangers such as cow-catapulting Frenchmen, the dreaded Knights who say Ni, the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog, and the beyond-tenacious Black Knight.
Sony's Blu-ray/UltraViolet Digital Copy combo pack presents the film in its 1.66:1 original aspect ratio with both 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and LPCM monaural soundtracks. The disc also contains a number of bonus supplements, including:
Commentaries by Terry Gilliam & Terry Jones, plus general complaints and back-biting by John Cleese, Eric Idle & Michael Palin

My favorite scene is Monty Python and the Holy Grail Guarding The Room...if if if if if if uh if if if if if if uh
It better have the mono track. I can live with a lossy one, but I don't like the 5.1 remix. Also please don't leave off the trailer again, Sony. The one for this flick is classic.
King- "Someday Lad, all this will be yours" Son- "What, the curtains?". Classic stuff. I've had every version of this that's been made. I really hope, though that on the blu-ray they can manage to improve on the picture quality a little. I know they can only do so much. But it'll be great regardless.
A nice send up of Robert Bresson's LANCELOT OF THE LAKE. Just watch the cross cutting in the Black Knight scene and compare to the first act in Bresson's classic. The Python crew were funny...but also very literate. I can't wait for this on blu!
jole I remember the DVD looking better. This is the trailer, and some trailer's just look terrible. Here's the Back to the Future Part II trailer, and tell me the PQ looks good...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UZ0tzuv1VM
Let's see: This trailer has the trailer voice-over God, Don LaFontaine, who died 3 years ago (R.I.P.), saying "Now, for the first time ever on the widescreen...". The 2001 DVD was in widescreen, so this trailer is more than likely from that period, not for the new Blu-ray. So, don't $H!t your britches, thinking "Oh, God! The PQ looks terrible!". Again, the DVD's PQ looks better than this trailer, so fret not.
Hmmm...they're going back to TrueHD for this blu. I guess since it takes up the least amount of space, compared to the other lossless audio codecs, that probably means they're trying to cram all of the special features from the 2001 DVD all onto one disc, along with new special features, as well. I hope that doesn't affect the PQ, though...
ABOUT THE ABOVE LINK for the danish release - i'm the one who adds danish BD releases and have added release dates - the Release date for he danish release could change - if i get informations about it being changed i'll update ASAP and if not i'll udate specs when i get them - and cover - so keep im mind that the release date might get changed
I just now received an email from Amazon saying that my pre-order is cancelled because they won't be able to provide it. So where can I buy this movie in March then???
Same thing just happened to me, russkie. If I were cynical, I'd think that Amazon is dropping all pre-orders because the blu-ray will end up costing much more than the $13.99 they were listing it for, and they want to be able to charge more when they re-list it in a month or so. Or maybe their order department is just exceptionally stupid.
@ Adam_ME It's the mono track or not at all. The re-recorded dialogue is painfully out of place. Palin's voiceover before Scene 23 is particularly bad.
@Cplhicks "Japanese Version" will probably be the same feature from the SE DVD -- some brief clips from the Japanese dub, with English subtitles (supposedly) translating the Japanese dialogue. I seriously doubt they'll include the entire Japanese dub. The Criterion laserdisc did, but that didn't take up any extra space on the disc, since they had an extra analog track left over.
@killermike2178 That trailer is from the 2001 theatrical reissue. It actually claims "for the first time on the wide screen, digitally remixed with full wraparound stereophonic sound," with "the wide screen" evidently just meaning "the big screen." The 2001 release was the first time the movie had been available with a surround mix instead of the original mono. The movie was of course always widescreen in theaters, and widescreen video versions have been available since the CED in 1983 (http://www.cedmagic.com/featured/monty-python-grail.html).
I agree with others' concerns about the mono mix, they'd better include it.
Up again at Amazon. Price is now $14.99. People who wrote in after the earlier pre-orders were canceled were told their original price would be honored, but you'll have to send them an email to get it.
