Warner to Back Blu-ray Exclusively

Posted January 4, 2008 03:49 PM by Josh Dreuth

Warner Bros. Warner has announced that they will be switching to support Blu-ray exclusively. Warner has been supporting both formats since they were launched, but recent talk from top executives suggested that Warner couldn't continue down that road much longer, and that the all important holiday sales would help them make a decision. With Blu-ray winning every week in high definition sales this year, Warner has decided that The Future is Blu.

"The window of opportunity for high-definition DVD could be missed if format confusion continues to linger. We believe that exclusively distributing in Blu-ray will further the potential for mass market success and ultimately benefit retailers, producers, and most importantly, consumers," Warner Bros Chairman and Chief Executive Barry Meyer said in a statement.

Its all over folks!

This is truly awesome news if it is true. I really really really would like a source on this although I do trust that Josh would not post it if it was not 'for sure'. I just know HDDVD fans may make a fit over it.

The announcement must be coming very shortly for Josh to move on this now.

If it's all finally over.... wow. Just wow. Time to get on with our lives and enjoy some great films on Blu-ray.

Edit: Well, apparently after my post Josh added the quote and the Press Release. As suspected the announcement was not far away! Thank you, Josh!
