High Road To China Blu-ray

Posted February 1, 2012 05:27 PM by Webmaster

Blu-ray MoviesIndependent distributors Hen's Tooth Video have officially announced that they will release on Blu-ray Brian G. Hutton's adventure film High Road To China (1983), starring Tom Selleck, Bess Armstrong, and Jack Weston. Street date is April 17th.

Special Features:
  • Trailer
Selleck stars as Patrick O'Malley, a boozing, washed-up aviator who meets his match when he's hired by a high-strung heiress to find her long lost father. They make their way eastward in O'Malley's WWI biplane, surviving narrow escapes, last second rescues, and combat with warlords along the way. But nothing tops the ongoing battle they have with each other - the which leads inevitably to romance.

I rented the vhs 15-20 years ago. It bored me to tears then. I wonder if that will have changed now that I'm older and don't expect Magnum PI. Any thoughts?

You're kidding me! High Road To China is coming to Blu-ray! What awesome news. If anyone wants to know what Selleck would have been like as Indiana Jones, I suggest watching this movie. Easily one of the better adventure films that came out after the wave of them following Raiders.

Day 1 purchase for me. Easily. And finally in widescreen...

Yes! I've been waiting for this to be released! I hope they keep that excellent cover art for the blu-ray.

I saw this at the theater when it first came out, loved it. I think I had it on beta or vhs, been waiting and waiting and waiting for this to come out on DVD! On Blu-ray, thats way cooler, can't wait thats a definite must for my collection.

Fantastic! I'm a Tom Selleck fan but this was made before I was born. My father has told me about it but I learned once you could get a rare, expensive full screen DVD, or the widescreen laserdisc (Yes we have an old laserdisc player). 6 months ago I found a copy in an antique mall by chance, but they wanted $50 for it. I couldn't afford that.

I look forward to picking this up and surprising him.

Definitely day one for me also. I had hoped that it would come out on DVD, but alas not in Region 1. I did find it and bought it for Region 2 . Can't wait.

Are you kidding? Another John Barry brilliant score that got lost in the theatres. Great cast and lost potential for sure. Should've gotten more recognition

This is unexpected. I used to see people inquire about this on the Warner Archive Collection Facebook page.

I guess that means Lassiter is a future possibility also.

I'll probably buy it too. It's hard to find on DVD, and expensive.

Definitely need to see this when you are older (on average).

I saw this in the theater when it came out and wanted to kill myself as a kid, then I saw it 20 years later and loved it.

Sounds like I need to give it another shot. I've always liked Selleck's stuff and this movie in particular seems right up my alley.

I already have the John Barry soundtrack, so I'm glad I will finally see the movie for the first time.

Day 1 for me as well. Saw it in the theater way back when. Some great flying sequences. I've had this on my wishlist for years and can't wait. Hopefully they will release "Always" on blu-ray...a really good movie with lots of great flying. Also need the aviation classics "The Great Waldo Pepper" and "The Blue Max" on blu-ray.

Bess Armstrong. John Barry. Enough said. Got the Australian DVD but the 4x3 transfer is just awful. I hoooope they do this proud. Day 1 without question!

Halleljah! I've been wanting this one, for sure. I had an awful import copy, painful to watch. Day one on this one!

Holy crap yes! A wonderful film that never got a proper DVD release coming to blu-ray. I hope this company is good. The downside is that their two previous blus apparently only have lossy stereo. Fingers crossed.

PS: I just sent Hen's Tooth Video a message asking for lossless audio. If you lot do it as well, maybe the message will get through. They have a contact form on their site!
