Independent distributors Hen's Tooth Video have officially announced that they will release on Blu-ray Brian G. Hutton's adventure film High Road To China (1983), starring Tom Selleck, Bess Armstrong, and Jack Weston. Street date is April 17th.
Selleck stars as Patrick O'Malley, a boozing, washed-up aviator who meets his match when he's hired by a high-strung heiress to find her long lost father. They make their way eastward in O'Malley's WWI biplane, surviving narrow escapes, last second rescues, and combat with warlords along the way. But nothing tops the ongoing battle they have with each other - the which leads inevitably to romance.
You're kidding me! High Road To China is coming to Blu-ray! What awesome news. If anyone wants to know what Selleck would have been like as Indiana Jones, I suggest watching this movie. Easily one of the better adventure films that came out after the wave of them following Raiders.
Day 1 purchase for me. Easily. And finally in widescreen...
I saw this at the theater when it first came out, loved it. I think I had it on beta or vhs, been waiting and waiting and waiting for this to come out on DVD! On Blu-ray, thats way cooler, can't wait thats a definite must for my collection.
Fantastic! I'm a Tom Selleck fan but this was made before I was born. My father has told me about it but I learned once you could get a rare, expensive full screen DVD, or the widescreen laserdisc (Yes we have an old laserdisc player). 6 months ago I found a copy in an antique mall by chance, but they wanted $50 for it. I couldn't afford that.
I look forward to picking this up and surprising him.
Day 1 for me as well. Saw it in the theater way back when. Some great flying sequences. I've had this on my wishlist for years and can't wait. Hopefully they will release "Always" on blu-ray...a really good movie with lots of great flying. Also need the aviation classics "The Great Waldo Pepper" and "The Blue Max" on blu-ray.
Holy crap yes! A wonderful film that never got a proper DVD release coming to blu-ray. I hope this company is good. The downside is that their two previous blus apparently only have lossy stereo. Fingers crossed.
PS: I just sent Hen's Tooth Video a message asking for lossless audio. If you lot do it as well, maybe the message will get through. They have a contact form on their site!
