Official Teaser Trailer for The Bourne Legacy

Posted February 8, 2012 02:06 PM by Josh Katz

Universal 100thUniversal Studios has released the official teaser trailer for The Bourne Legacy. Set in the same world that Matt Damon's popular Bourne Trilogy occupied, this thriller stars Jeremy Renner (The Town) as a troubled young man who becomes a covert CIA assassin.

Little is known about the new film, but the teaser puts an emphasis on the mental and physical conditioning that Renner's character endures on his path to becoming the next "Bourne" in addition to the double-crosses and violent action that are already staples of the Bourne series.

Filmmaker Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton) handles the screenwriting and directing duties for this entry, which boasts an impressive supporting cast that includes Bourne veterans Scott Glenn (Training Day), David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck), and Joan Allen (Pleasantville), as well as franchise newcomers Corey Stoll (Midnight in Paris), Oscar Isaac (Drive), Stacy Keach (Escape from L.A.), Rachel Weisz (The Fountain), and Edward Norton (Fight Club).

The Bourne Legacy's U.S. release date is scheduled for August 3rd, 2012.

Hope in terms of shaky-cam-ness it's more like Bourne 1 than Bourne 2 or 3.

Looks pretty decent. As a huge fan of the Bourne trilogy, I look forward to this new installment.

Not a big fan of Jeremy Renner. It wont be Bourne without Bourne(Damon)

Im looking forward to this. The lack of the Damon/Greengrass pairing is a shame but the real reason I loved the trilogy was the story. I think this will be pretty good.

Can't freaking wait to see Renner in this!!

Looks okay, I guess. Could go either way. I loved the first Bourne but couldn't stand the way the other two were directed. The shaky-cam thing just doesn't work for me. I prefer traditional filmmaking. Renner seems to be in every second movie these days (MI, Avengers, etc). Remains to be seen if he lasts.

Looks decent. I was hoping Edward Norton would be the bad guy though!

I'm just thankful it wasn't a remake or a sequel with another actor playing Jason Bourne, that would've been a disaster!

I am so glad that this new decade is into smooth, "I can actually see everything happening," action scenes as opposed to the maddening shaky-cam mayhem of last decade where watching a frenetic car chase left you feeling like you were just in one.

I like this. It's not like Jeremy Renner is replacing Matt Damon or anything, and with all the Bourne co-stars returning, this film effectively feels like a part of the Bourne universe. Plus, it's got Ed Norton... you can NEVER go wrong with Ed Norton. I'm sure Matt Damon will eventually return to the series and maybe we'll even see a Damon Vs. Renner fight in a future installment.

"watching a frenetic car chase left you feeling like you were just in one."

I think that was the entire point, to immerse you in the action, not leave you standing on the sode of the road watching cars go by like it has been done 100 times. What better than to put you in the car with Bourne at the end of part 2, which is the best car chase Ive ever seen.

Jeremy Renner looks a lot slower than Matt Damon's character, but overall it looks like it will be an action packed thriller.

Looks not too bad. Does this mean we have to double dip on a new box set with all 4 films? :-)

As someone who enjoyed the original Bourne Trilogy and also likes Jeremy Renner's performanes, I'm looking forward to this film. What would this be considered? A reboot? A spinoff? Or just another sequel?

Seems as if Renner is taking over everything: first Mission:Impossible, now the Bourne series.

BTW, I like the trailer, with its stripes moving across the frame like variations on venetian and vertical blinds, revealing and concealing portions of the images. The current poster has a similar aesthetic. Works well with the motif of things and characters in the story being mysterious or obscure.

I was really down on this film when I heard Bourne (Damon) would't actually be in it. But after seeing this trailer it actually leaves me hopeful. Looks like a solid film.

The biggest disappointment is that this trailer won't be on the blu ray, what a great 100 years universal.

Sooo.. no Damon involvement at all??? =( still I'm willing to give Renner a fair shot, he's a great actor. The Bourne series is one of the few movie series that has stayed great.

This actually looks pretty awesome. I have a good feeling about this, even if it is weird having a Bourne movie with no born(though the story idea is clever in a sense for this new installment)

"nonstandard" would indicate that it is not a word, but a common error.

It's self-contradictory.

Their is a whole bunch of people who thinks certain words are not real. In 8th grade I used the word Stupefied and my teacher said it was not a word but I proved her wrond.

Also the whole Jennifer Garner Snuck incident on Conan O'Brien. Here's the link if you want to see it.
