Eureka Entertainment have revealed that they are planning to release a Dual Format Edition of Ro.Go.Pa.G (1963). This classic film is comprised of four segments, each written and directed by a different helmer: Roberto Rossellini, Jean-Luc Godard, Pier Paolo Pasolini, and Ugo Gregoretti. A preliminary release date is yet to be announced.
Roberto Rossellini's segment Illibatezza a.k.a Virginity is about a beautiful and married Italian stewardess who meets a needy and very persistent middle-aged American man.
Jean-Luc Godard's Il Nuovo Mondo a.k.a The New World is set in Paris and shows the end of the world, caused by a nuclear explosion in the sky, some 120,000 meters above Paris. The main characters are a young French couple.
Pier Paolo Pasolini's La Ricotta a.k.a Curd Cheese is a biting satire which angered the Church so much that it secured a four-month prison sentence for the Italian director on the grounds of blasphemy, and a ban of the film.
In Ugo Gregoretti's Il Pollo Ruspante a.k.a Free Range Chicken a family of the materialist culture inadvertently illustrate the cynical, metallic voiced doctrine of a top sales theorist.
Eureka!... one of the best companies to release blu-rays. Ro.Go.Pa.G is a terrific and very interesting piece. La Ricotta is available on the Criterion DVD of Mamma Roma but the others have eluded home video in North America for some time. Hopefully this will be region free.
