Harry Potter Wizards Collection Up for Pre-Order

Posted March 1, 2012 03:57 PM by Josh Katz

Warner Bros.Amazon has listed the Harry Potter Wizards Collection for pre-order.

This box set includes all eight films in the Harry Potter franchise alongside what appears to be a wide assortment of digital and collectible bonus materials.

However, at this moment, Warner Home Entertainment has not released any of the package's technical or supplementary specifications. The studio has also not set a street date.

The pre-order cost for the Harry Potter Wizards Collection is currently $349.99, or 30% off its SRP of $499.99.

Unless this has like 20 BD's in total; carrying extended cuts, theatrical cuts and special features (old and new) for all the movies there is no way they can justify that price tag!

Worst case scenario is it's just another repackage with DVD and useless UV Digital Copies.

Hey, Warner, I have an idea: why not releasing the two parts of the 7th movie in their respective ultimate editions?

If not, you can also think about this: why not offering the fans a few hair of Dumbledore's beard (actually, you'd have more luck with Hagrid's) and a few rags of Ron's shirt? You could sell the same thing for a few grands more, you know? Why bleed us dry when you can simply kill us?

Most of the casual fans have already bought the films. I started with the original swag box of years 1-5 back when BD and HD DVD were duking it out. I am not enough of a fan to dump that and following three films I bought outside of that original boxset. The only one I double dipped on was Deathly Hallows P1 and that was because BB had the exclusive 3D release of at the time of the P2 release. I know it was a conversion but I thought since I was buying the final one in 3D I might as well have P1 in 3D also. I have no interest in double/triple/etc dipping on HP. They were good books/movies, but in reality I don't think the story needed so much filler to get to the showdown between HP and LV. The fourth, fifth and sixth parts did not advance the story. I felt like they rehashing the same story over and over... LV is back and no one believe us.

@Simonbergeron

I'm with you on releasing the Deathly Hallows ultimate editions. On the bright side, Warner did say that they would be releasing a big box set or two in addition to the ultimate editions (on the same day in fact, if I'm remember what I've read correctly), which means that the street date for this should be the street date for those.

So on that note, hopefully this article gets updated with the street date soon, so that I may know when I can complete my ultimate edition collection. Or, even better, info on the ultimate editions themselves - street date, pictures, features, the whole thing.

ChadFL is absolutelly right. We must remember that although it's not the case of most of us (it certainly isn't mine) there are millionaires who enjoy the Harry Potter films, and for them this price is peanuts. Not to mention the die hard fans who simply can't wait a day to own the newest releases, no matter if they have to starve in order to buy them. After most of these folks get their fix, they drop the price so the rest of us regular Joes (and Janes) can afford it.

I was thinking we could send Lieutenant Aldo Raine and his Basterds to teach a lesson in humanity to Warner Bros. so they finish the Ultimate Editions first, THEN suck us dry with this box set. Waddya think? Warner ain't got no humanity. They're the foot soldiers of a multi-billion dollar industry and they need to be destroyed! Or at least, teach them to use a bit more judgement: after making close to $8 billions, it's hard for the customer NOT to feel ripped-off, even if the set was around $150.

WTF are you kidding me, $350.00 for 8 blu ray's, gooooood gawd! I mean I love Potter and all but holy hell that is an INSANE amount of money. Thats a 250 gig Xbox and Mass effect 3 for the same price as 8 movies. Digital exclusives or not that is the single most highest priced set I have ever seen. I am glad I allready have all 8 and the first 5 in a collector set and it cost me nowhere near 350 bones, sadly that is 30% off the listed price of 499.00!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is purely just absurd!

Few things to note:
1- if this thing really comes out with 31 discs then we are looking at the following breakdown:
(8 BD films incl 2 Ex.Cut, 2 BD 3D Cuts, 3 BD Original Special Features, 8 BD Ultimate Special Features, 8 DVD films+UV copies) Total 29 Discs. So basically we get only 2 additional BDs that feature over 5 hours of never before seen special features.

2- Even if the price goes down during one of those Amazon DEALS, it will only be 55% less than the SRP which will be somewhere around $225.

3- Since I am one of those die-hard fans of Harry Potter. I own the books, the dvds, the collector's items, the blu-ray discs, the ultimate cuts (minus the last 2) and the British Complete Set. I never missed a single Harry Potter in cinema. I won't lie, this set does look very tempting to me. But I believe I matured a little bit since Harry ended his theatrical run. The only extra things I get with this set is the 2 BDs and the box itself (with hidden drawers). Paying anything between $225 to $500 for these two new items is not worth it anymore. I really think we better get a new hobby.

4- Warner Bros UK will eventually release those two extra discs in a regular boxset for $80. It will problably include all the above mentioned items minus the UV/Digital copies and all the Ultimate Cuts will be on DVD instead of BD. The boxset will fit perfectly on your shelf. The best part it will be region-free (except for the DVDs ofcourse). Now that's a bargain I will easily consider.

This may be just what I've been waiting for. Assuming this package has ultimate collectors editions of each of the eight Potter films, I would be interested in acquiring a copy, after a significant price drop. I'm not a huge fanatic of Harry Potter but I like what I've seen of the series and am interested in owning it. It helps me that I don't own any of the films in this series in any iteration.

We're guessing that's 8 Blu-ray discs, 8 DVDs and 2 Blu-ray 3D discs for the movies. No word yet on what tech specs will be for each film or when the set will debut (likely in the fall). We're guessing this set will largely be the same discs available in the Ultimate Edition collector's sets. But those additional five hours of content could prove most intriguing.

-------------------

So... I guess it's time to buy all the HP movies for $9.99 on Amazon. I was holding off on the BluRay, but I'm not paying $400 bucks for 3D disks I don't want or need, digital copies I will never use, and 8 DVD's that I already own. =P

No one really cares anymore about these blu rays. Warner has jaded most buyers and made bitter, angry people out of us. I refused to do the "Ultimate" thing after 1&2 were the only ones to be granted extended versions. The "ultimate" moniker for the rat is really symbolic, so those who want huge book-like boxes can have a set on the shelves that all match. A book and cards do not an Ultimate Edition make. I refused to buy into Warner's obvious cash grab when there were no more extended versions, and will not even give this horrid looking box set a second look. If they ever release extended versions, then I will buy them. Until then, Warner can forcibly insert this box into any orifice they want!

Way too much money. I purchased the bd/dvd/digital copy of all 8 films that is enough.
ABC family HD has the extended cuts on every 3-4 months of the 1st 6 films.
I think if they offered the extended cuts of all 8 films and had a price around $125 they would sell alot.
Star Wars had just 6 films with extra discs and it was not above $90 at retail, 2 more movies is no where near $350 worth.

Personally I think that most of the people will hold on to the original BDs or DVDs since they have emotional value as well...I mean because we bought these as the movies were released...I know I feel the same way...and you know I'm sick and tired of people (MYSELF INCLUDED ofc lol) asking for extended editions....I wish that WB would make a statement after all this fuzz and tell us that EE don't and won't exist aside from 1 & 2....that would get us out of our misery dont you think?....I wish I knew a way to contact them for a statement on this...does anyone know a way? I have 1-5 BD, 6 BD+DVD and 7.1,7.2 on 3D+BD+DVD...so I prefer to buy 1-5 on DVD from ebay so I'll have the series on both DVD and BD for less than 500$....I dont care much for 1 & 2 EE because just inserting scenes that we already have as deleted on the BD, isn't EE...It's a shame really because I had much hope for this set....and personally I think that the 8 remaining discs that are unknown of their contents to us will be the 8 documentaries from the UCE....

Just think 8 BDs(movies)+8 DVDs(movies)+2 EE DVDs(1 & 2)+2 3D (7.1,7.2)+3BDs of SPECIAL FEATURES from 6,7.1,7.2+8BDs with unknown content (which I think will be the 8 documentaries)=31....which mean that this set doesnt contain sth really special after all....the "over 5 hours of special content" will be the yet unknown features from the 7.1,7.2 UCE.....

Got an idea!! One way to make this set worth the $350 is for one of those drawers to contain a $10,000 check which would then go to some lucky fellow! Bet that might change a few minds!

It has a full set of working wands, right?! This is the best comedy that WB has released in years!

Personally, I think this set should have been a nice book style, like the Alien & Star Wars sets. It would be cool to have a spell book or Tom Riddle's diary. Something like that I would have preferred to an awkward fold-out chest of drawers.

For this price it should have a full set of limited edition printing of all the books(made for this set!) all autographed by J.K.R, and equal presentation of all the films with each film autographed by each director. Otherwise i dont see the point of this set, with all the talk of another Ultimate set as well

Too much $ for a chunk of cardboard.

This is way too overpriced, and overdone too. All I wanted was an 8-film set in a fancy case (like the Alien or Star Wars sets), chock full of special features, priced somewhere around $99.99.
