The German branch of Warner Brothers has revealed that it is planning to release on Blu-ray director Peter Hyams' Outland (1981), starring Sean Connery, Frances Sternhagen and Peter Boyle. The preliminary release date set by the studio is July 20th.
Io, Jupiter's innermost moon, hosts mining colony Con-Am 27, a high-tech hellhole. There a veteran marshal (Connery) probes some mysterious deaths of miners. In pursuit of the truth, he's alone. In Outland, writer/director Peter Hyams (Timecop, 2010: The Year We Make Contact) depicts a chilling extension of today's corporation-driven world. Dehumanization is vividly evoked in Philip Harrison's striking production design and two-time Academy Award winner John Stears' special effects.
about time! All I have is a "DVD". I put DVD in quotes because what I have may physically exist on a DVD, but is it not a DVD: it is a blurry, pixilated, worse-than-VHS-recorded-off-of-rabbit-ears mess. Unwatchable.
This trailer sure gives away a lot of the plot. It was made by the Ladd Company, the company that made Blade Runner a year later.
I like the used future design, which shows that the film was clearly influenced by Alien, which was influenced by Star Wars, which was influenced by 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was influenced by aliens (not the movie).
