In September, Marvel and Walt Disney Studios will bring The Avengers to Blu-ray. Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon helms this action blockbuster, which finds S.H.I.E.L.D operative Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson, Jackie Brown) leading a team of superheroes to do battle against fallen Asgardian god Loki (Tom Hiddleston, Wallander).
Fury's "Avengers Initiative" draws together some of Marvel Comics' most iconic characters: Tony "Iron Man" Stark (Robert Downey, Jr., Iron Man), Steve "Captain America" Rogers (Chris Evans, Captain America: The First Avenger), Thor (Chris Hemsworth, Thor), Clint "Hawkeye" Barton (Jeremy Renner, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol), Natasha "Black Widow" Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson, Iron Man 2), and Bruce "The Hulk" Banner (Mark Ruffalo, The Kids Are All Right, replacing Edward Norton from The Incredible Hulk, who in turn replaced Eric Bana from Hulk).
Joining them is an impressive ensemble cast including Gwyneth Paltrow (Se7en), Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother), Stellan Skarsgård (Good Will Hunting), and Clark Gregg ([500] Days of Summer).
Extras seem very light. I wouldve liked a making of documentary of some sort like the 90min doc the UK set is supposedly gonna get. Maybe a Best Buy exclusive disc or something...
Hopefully there are some special releases of this blu-ray, which include something more worthwhile than a different cover. Extra special features or an extended cut would be nice.
Too bad Paramount didn't get to keep distributing Marvel films. It would have a better cover, better special features, the ability to set bookmarks, and no second screen. damn disney
September is just far out enough for stores to make this a good deal on Black Friday. Especially since most people will get it immediately and therefore the store won't take a huge hit selling it for cheap.
Norton didn't actually "replace" Bana as Bruce Banner... at least not in the same way that Don Cheadle replaced Terrance Howard as Rhodey in the Iron Man films. The Norton Hulk movie was not a sequel to the Bana Hulk movie and the Bana Hulk movie was not part of the Avengers series.
Loving the 7.1 DTS-HD Master. I'm reading two different aspect ratios though. Is it presented in 1.78:1 or 1.85:1? I'm actually surprised it it's 1.78:1.
