Imitation Blu-ray Movies Come to US

Posted January 25, 2008 09:26 AM by Josh Dreuth

Blu-ray Disc Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? Well, we've all seen the mall kiosk vendors who sell Chinese movies, and it appears they can't help but feel the pressure from Blu-ray either. Forum member X400 was at his local mall and something caught his eye; it was a DVD with artwork used to emulate a Blu-ray case.

As you can tell from the front cover, these are standard DVDs which have been put in standard DVD cases with some misleading print. Of course, using the Blu-ray logo, and emulating the Blu-ray case, is illegal and very misleading, but that won't stop some from trying. You won't find these Chinese knock-offs at regular retailers, but if you happen to shop at Kiosks for your movies, make sure you take a closer look before you buy what you think is a Blu-ray movie.

Thanks goes out to X400 for the excellent detective work.

For someone how is not that up to date could think these are real and then become very disapointed when they get it home and try it out.

That is really sad, and scary. They will stoop to anything to try to sell their bootleg movies won't
they?
It is flattery that they use Blu-ray, but they should be thrown out, and the bootleggers should be
arrested. If only the world worked that way.

Just shows how the Blu-ray logo is associated with quality. Also, the Chinese will try to bootleg a T-Bone steak..

As much as it is illegal, and i don't approve. At least the criminals know which way the war has gone. Reminds me of when all those Blu-ray disc had been stolen. Maybe know HD DVD promo group will pay attention. Again, I don't support these actions. I don't want crap imitation Blu out there!!

May the Blu be with you...

Anyone who shops at these places is used to buying bootlegs anyways, remember that.

Strange thing is that Flash Point is actually on Blu-ray (Triangle not as of yet). Who thinks they're actually getting a bd for $8.50? If they're going to pirate at least they should have gotten it right put it on a bd and not a dvd.

That is a pure sin and a rip off that will not only mislead consumers, but possibly possibly poison them too. Also, which would you rather take, a regular DVD thats trying to be a BD but falling way short with the possibility of harming your family because of the lead content, or a HD DVD and give me a proper reason, not one which says "I'll take the lead based DVD, cos I'd rather die than be red".

They (venders) should be painted red, and paraded around that mall holding a sign that says " The look and sound of a dumbass"!!!
