Actually I've been waiting for "John Carter" series lots of years... but... if I had to choose another one I will pick "Tarzan" series, also by E. R. Burroughs.
I would really love to see MAXIMUM RIDE by James Patterson. The story revolves around young people who have wings and to see that as a movie would be awesome. The story is also quite long so that can be made into a great franchise. It's very action-packed too but mostly with the characters flying around, which would be interesting to see.
I'm still waiting for the big screen version of "Rendezvous With Rama" by Arthur C. Clarke. Morgan Freeman acquired the rights a few years ago, and there was a website built for it, then it disappeared.
