Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will bring Homeland: The Complete First Season to Blu-ray in August. The premiere installment of Showtime's Golden Globe-winning spy drama - it won for Best Television Series (Drama) and Best Actress in a Television Series (Drama) - stars Claire Danes (Romeo + Juliet) as Carrie Mathison, a troubled CIA agent convinced that Al Qaeda is planning another terrorist attack on American soil.
From Fox's official synopsis:
"Carrie Mathison...suspects that a rescued American POW may not be what he seems. Is Marine Sgt. Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis, Band of Brothers) a war hero or an Al Qaeda sleeper agent plotting a spectacular terrorist attack on U.S. soil? Following her instincts, Mathison will risk everything to uncover the truth - her reputation, her career, and even her sanity."
Fox's three-disc Blu-ray set presents Season One in its 1.78:1 broadcast aspect ratio with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio tracks. The set also contains the following supplements:

Damien Lewis, Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin were all extremely good and the show was very good overall. There were a few times when it seemed to lose track of what it wanted to be (or maybe more accurately, when it tried to be too many things) but when it had its footing it was quite good.
Thanks for the suggestion. Set the DVR to tape the entire first season during this "free" weekend. I watched the first episode earlier this year and was hooked but don't have Showtime. I was contemplating just this being my summer show and buy it every year on BD, but I still wanted to make sure.
With the "free" weekend, I can now. Hopefully, it's as good as I think it is. And if so, I'll just buy this series every August...
This is a really engrossing show. I have access to all the episodes with Showtime On Demand so I don't think I'll be buying, but I highly recommend this show to those without Showtime. When it comes to TV I usually stick to comedy shows as I don't find many dramas to be very good, but this one was excellent.
Claire Danes blew me out of the water with her performance in this. Honestly everyone is fantastic but her role isn't an easy one to perform and she pulled me in every week. Her manic episodes are also intensely realistic to someone suffering with her characters condition. Really worth picking up if you haven't checked the show out.
Best new show of last year, and probably the best series to come along since Breaking Bad. I just hope the second season can be even 75% as good as Season 1. My fear is that they put everything into making a phenomenal pilot season, but won't know where to take the story while maintaining the current level of quality. Still, I'm optimistic. And if you haven't seen this but occasionally make blind TV purchases, this is well worth your time and money.
Yes, it is excellent. And I consider myself to be a TV snob. What's great is that although it has amazing writing, acting, and character development, it's also very tense, suspenseful, and compulsively watchable. In other words, it's not just an arty, glacially paced drama. It's kickass television.
Terrific show w/ great performances from Danes and Pantinkin. Had a few too many threads running at times but pretty rock solid debut. I assume it'll get a slew of Emmy nominations next month and Danes seems the front runner in the lead actress category.
